Cubicle shed costs

On the cubicles? Wouldn't a clue. They arrive in May.
The tale of a local farmer getting more “identical” cubicles springs to mind. Said farmer thought the new cubicles were a bit light so chopped one apart, was 1.5 mm less than his original ones. Rang the rep, “ Probably only the one at the end of a production run”, farmer said “I’ll keep cut till I find one the right spec!” All cubicles were changed!

My neighbour does it by splitting the shed and feeds the dry cows on bales one end then puts the milkers the other and lets them self feed a silage pile that end. He moves the gates up as the group sizes change.

Cubicle shed cost come down a lot to weather you wish to house 8 months 4 months or 12 months. 6k liters or 12k liters

Another farm close by bolted the uprights to a roof on the back of the individual post mounted cubicles. High enough to get a scraper in with a 8 inch gap. 360 cubicles like that and a short single run of 40ish with just a roof over the bed. Massive pile of silage next to them for self feeding.

This & breed of cow. We’ve got 14’ head to heads & they’re just not long enough for our holsteins. New ones going in at 17’. So wider shed & more concrete for wider passages before you even get started on comfort.

Thank you all. It seems there is no rule of thumb.
For those that asked, we have around 120 cows at present, but a bit of scope for expansion wouldn't hurt. The site lends itself to three double rows up to 36m long, maybe 144 beds depending on whose sizes one follows. Feed on outsides, have had problems with too much maize this year, so self feed has stopped. New building required, but hard standing already down. Used to be able to keep cows grazing for a good part of the year, but have had several years of drought, followed by monsoon, so inclined to be fairly generous with space and mattresses, as we may be housed for quite a while, and I don't want to risk fertility, although they will have access to a good outdoor loafing area.
I'll keep getting quotes and work it out for myself. It's been an interesting discussion. Thank you.

How long are you hoping the rope to last ?. We put rope in & sand,& the rope doesnt last long enough, but I was warned. TBH its not a big job to renew the rope.

From memory storth rope is a ridiculous price, over £7 a metre (some years ago) and we were only getting a couple of years out of it. Switched over to 20mm polysteel rope from rope direct. Only £1 a metre. A big saving every time we change a rope. Seems to last just as long.

I use dyneema rope. It's 10mm and have 12 tons break strenght. I pay about £3,7/m. It last about 15-18 month on average. We splice it once, and second time it breaks we swap. My passage is 112 meters. It would probably last longer on a shorter run. My pulleys doesn't accomodate 20mm rope, so i can't try something else.

Just a couple of months here, but only around £3/m
