Cubicle shed crossover passage

I would like to feed my milking cows down a central feed passageway with a sheargrab to keep things simple.

However the gable end where the cows cross to get to collecting yard is also the same end that my silage pits are located - which would mean making multiple trips with loader across a soiled passage, dragging lots of muck/contamination into the feed passage, which is obviously a non-starter.

I have seen this at Greenmounts new dairy unit:

Basically some thin plating set level in floor that allows tractor to cross in a clean fashion but then folds up to form barriers to allow cows to cross.

Anyone seen anything similar working in practice? It would be too heavy to lift by hand but can't see any ratchet mechanism to raise it in the pictures I've seen??

A dairy farmer on the Ards Peninsular had on installed in a new shed for the same reason, the farmer had a local fabricator make it up for him, using hydraulic motor to power it. The idea came from the draw bridge at the ferry terminal.

Must be too much money in dairying,, what's wrong with a hand scraper, won't take a minute when you close the gates, if you're fussy install a hosepipe aswell. It would work best if you had a slurry Chanel there.

Couple of points:

There will be no slurry channel there (sand bedding, not a good combination)

I will not be spending £8k on some fancy contraption as mentioned by @bigw

My plan was to fettle something up with my local engineer using chequer plate and s/h winches (n)

Your farm, your choice but personally I wouldn't want to complicate something that could be done as simple as using a hand scraper, the most technical but I'd add to that would be a hook to hang it up close by.
A hand scraper will work fine without a slurry Chanel, it's just that you will be pushing muck out into the cows feed passage whereas with a Chanel the muck would disappear.
