Sand ,Sand & more sand, even if you need to change slurry handling, foams just mask how useless the pasture mats are.

We took all of ours out as had impacted where cows laid and only softer in between cows, rough top cover that was difficult to clean. & harsh on hocks . How are the floor mount brackets lasting as we,ve had to repair quite a few ?.Also the load strap was replaced to stop cows going through and getting stuck.

Think we have had to re drill about 6 of the floor fixings
The idea of the straps is the occasional idiot can go forward without getting stuck, which seems to work
Only thing we changed, The brackets that clamp the head rails to the end walls were not good enough so we made new ones

Just gone with wilson floor mount c50 a lot easier and cheaper to retrofit and replace newton rig on a budget no posts to concreet in went with mayo mats maby not a good but more stable over time a bit cheaper and no layers to harbour bacteria hate mastitis not the cost but the time dump cows add to milking

We have some older rail mounted C50 wilson stalls for bullers and have been spot on, much stronger than the floor mounted.

I upgraded here with the c50 rail mount and the mayo mattresses (the thick mat)
In the two years it took to do both sides of cubicles, Wilson changed the rail to cubicle brackets, the latter ones far superior to the early ones, as the bottom cubicle moves when the cows get up, as the cubie length is only 7ft. Mayo's are lasting well, they were fitted with the metal plates in-between to keep them down, and haven't moved an inch.

Having seen a couple of farms where they had the Wilson mats in for more than a couple of years I honestly don't know why anyone would fit them. They are the opposite of what you want in a cow mat/matress. Apols to those who have them.

I have a question, thought I'd tack it onto the end of this thread.
Is it a terrible idea to have a cubicle shed with cubicles end to end, so the cows have to go out the door to cross over passages?
They would be fed outside anyway for now. The site is windy, and I recall that there can be problems with bedding being blown away from beds by the doors, which would need to be permanently open.
Was thinking about building a basic shed that could be added to if we found ourselves with loads of spare cash, in this case add bays on the end to provide internal crossovers and more cubicles, or a lean to on the outsides to provide covered feeding similar to the picture from @upnortheast above.
Thanks in advance
