Sorry to drag this thread up, just fitting mattresses for heifers and I think I’m going to go for intershape, they were 1200 pounds cheaper than IAE and have a fitting team.

I guess I’m asking if anyone thinks there’s any other mattresses worth looking at?
What £/mattress if you don’t mind me asking?

Kraiburg wingflex arriving next week but I think it’s comfiest I’ve ever seen. Put some of Teemores best mattress in last year and also like them. Absolutely hate my Wilson mattresses and head yokes for that matter. Bedding likes to stick to Wilson top cover when it gets wet and is hard to brush off whereas Teemore rubber top cover is a breeze to brush when wet

Arkmats. 30mm eva £36 each including fittings. £10 for an un-drilled steel joining strip. More than adequate for heifers.

I’m looking for top notch not adequate. Spend it once and spend it right. Steel strips inevitably end up in the passageway in years to come and auto scraped into the lagoon. Removing steel from a pump until midnight is not a job I want to be repeating.

I'm reading this thread with interest.I had thought of mats or mattresses for extra heifer housing being put in. Based on my experience with deep wood chip beds thats what we will be using again as the heifers are clean on it and its economically viable for me.

put plenty of sawdust on the cubicles. Keep the passages wet and don't scrape. Looks awful for a day or 2 but after 4 days all mine were trained.

we put in the intershape mattresses eight years ago, actually back then it was Batchalor farm services, but kieth Batchalor retired and intershape bought them, anyway eight years on and they are absolutely as new,you do the knee drop test and its painless, the cows lie so well in them and as they are on a roll they dont have any seems which make them particularly easy to clean , they arent cheap but from the way they are wearing, which is basically zero in eight years the initial cost isnt everything! Chas Butler also moved to intershape from Batchalors and he is a top bloke, pleasant and extremely competant, !

Our last three mattress runs were these. First run was a decade ago, as good as new. I looked at Wilsons at the time and couldn't work out why anyone would want to install tham to start with. We got them from Batchelor initially as well. Cattle love them.

I'm sure there are a few different options now but at the time these were the best for comfort without breaking the bank.

That’s great to hear I’ll get onto intershape and get them ordered!

Im going to pick some individual matts up today, very thick and comfortable looking things £20 cubical.
What type of mat? Are they new? At £20/cubicle if they are new and made of rubber they are very cheap. If they are made of polyurethane and light in weight (eg Mayo mats) then they are still cheap but from personal experience you may be disappointed with their long term performance.

Any tips on cubicle training? We have a few awkward old cows that insist in lying on the dirty concrete and it's now a problem as we converted our last straw yard to cubicles.
