Cull Boar and sow prices

we are storing grain, for a small pig farmer, who has a contract to fatten sows, sows go into him at incredibly low prices, l find the price, he says he is being paid, rather unbelievable, £1.15/day, and although l find that hard to believe, l have no reason to disbelieve him either, honest chap, currently 150 sows there.
But pigs were always gold or copper, and a shortage will follow a glut.
as a boy, pigs were more important than the dairy, 30/40 heavy hogs, 360lb, a week, all boars cut, how times have altered.

Spoke to a haulier this morning yesterday’s load of pigs from one of the intergrators 139kg live weight that suggests to me they have a backlog of their own pigs. Also said they were loading 100 sows a day last week from one unit to kill difficult to see any optimism out there!

This was some I sent to Cheales last week, the alternative was to shoot the big boars here and I didn't want to do that. Transport cost me 100. The boars were the 10p per kg ones, one boar condemend for some reason.

Cheales paying around 13p liveweight for sows in Selby last weds then transporting them to Essex think they may have bid you low because you are local and no other options without expensive transport. The whole job is not good at the moment but that is just taking the pi55 to me. All my sympathy.

When I went college they showed us the money the pig unit was making , and at that point we all thought yeah glad we don’t have pigs, it was running that far in the red I would of packed it In a long time ago.
