Cut teat on a cow

I am dealing with a cow now, who has a full blockage of her back left teat. Late December calved, vets advice was if she starts to go downhill Norodine/P&S

I find sometimes using a paper towel to strip them increases the grip to clear the blockage might not be possible but worth a go

Not good news unfortunately (never is with me!)

She calved yesterday lunchtime unassisted
Looked miserable as sin
Vet out after lunch
Treated with synulox (mastitis)
Meloxidyl, calcium, drenched etc

Vet back out this morning, died shortly after

That is the saving grace, lovely heifer by Dungannon, just got to keep her alive which i seem to be crap at!

Been there, got the t-shirt. Any idea why the sudden death? Seen a few after calving, no appetite, sh@@ turns black usually means death.

Ecoli mastitis would be my bet.

Are you spread too thin during calving ?

Apparently synulox causes ecoli to "pop" and the bursting makes them feel worse
It's why diatrim is better for ecoli as apparently it just kills the bacteria without making the cow feel as ill

Yes. The two cows I've lost, I think I would have lost regardless of if I had more time, but yes definitely spread too thin

Our vets no Longer give antibiotics for ecoli type mastitis. Metacam.pump and strip.

Same advice given to us.
Finding the time to stip multiple times a day is the big problem.
