Cutting costs & making more money (short term)

Now we're into Winter housing, I'm after sharing ideas to cut costs of production short-medium term.

Here's a couple of mine to kick off:
- Trial hot wash AM only, monitor bactoscans
- Reduce cake to over-conditioned cows once confirmed PD+
- Give cows more time in feed yard to up milk from forage; I've put gates up so part of the feed yard can be used as the collecting yard.
- Replace most used strip lights for LEDs
- Outwinter beef stores on old permanent pasture to avoid bedding/scraping costs

Any other thoughts?

Sell the stores and save a job completely?

Over winter on forage crops instead of destroying pp.
hot wash am only is fine even 3 times a week is doable.
Cull bottom 10% of your herd either lame, mastitis, fertility an low yield or low fat/ pro.

Replacing the strip lights might turn out to be a short/medium term cost rather than a saving. A good idea though.
