I thought this was only a problem if you are actually claiming and bound by cross compliance??

edit: what happens if i start tackling our hedge (which is mostly trees it's been left so long), on our 15 acres that is not registered for bps or anything

That would be coppicing so you get a lot longer I believe.

As long as you're not disturbing nesting birds you are ok. I guess some form of notebook showing you've done an investigation for signs of nesting would be enough be be aware if you stir trouble they'll be round checking.

ok, indeed most of the 'hedge' would not be considered under that definition i reckon. Although i'm kidding myself if i think i'll get a chance over the next month to do anything anyway!

Could someone explain this to a silly kiwi, ta?
What are your hedgerow regs?
:nailbiting: I think the only rule here is plant the trees to make the road as icy as possible...

You can't cut hedges between 1 march and 1 September if you claim subs, it is part of cross compliance. It was moved from 1 august because pigeons may have been nesting!

If you don't claim subs the window is larger but the greenies will don you in if they hear a flail and you'll probably get a swarm of greenies to try and fek you over!

Crikey.. now I get why there's a humming fleet of hedgecutters. From what I see from space, not a great shortage of places to nest in the UK..
We don't know how lucky we are .

Really gets my back up these stupid hedge cutting ''rules and regulations''..... You can cut pretty much whenever you want so long as you aren't disturbing birds nesting, in a scheme or claiming BPS. We have checked this with NFU.

However I do use it as an excuse to push on and get the bloody thing off, as 600hrs of trimming as well as trying to juggle fencing and digging work takes it's toll.

We have a few private hedges we do in the middle of July and some roadside work, nobody complains then as they can see to pull out and they wont scratch their Mercs... the council will order it to be done anyway.

With regards the police intervention, they have a duty to enforce the law, (even if it is bullocks!) so only really doing their job.
