Have you tried living a modern life without an internet connection? I would bet my bottom dollar its cheaper to run a smartphone than it is to get a bus every other day to the council offices, or the supermarket or the post office.
A landline is £17 a month, do you see that a luxury?

Sky? I doubt it.

Whats wrong with nike trainers? Does it not make more sense to buy one good pair of shoes to last 5 years, than to buy cheap pairs that only last 6 months? See 'Vimes Boot Index, T Pratchett'

My 'going out shoes' were bought over 10 years ago.
Most people will want the latest model of shoe or whatever else it may be as soon as it comes out. I doubt Nike wait 5 years to introduce a new model otherwise they'd be bust.

My slippers are at least 14 years old. Was just thinking today they’ve seen some hammer as I crossed the ceiling in them fitting a cable in the false roof. They survived a loft conversion and a fair amount of roofing work as well. Handy footwear on delicate surfaces Getting ready for a new pair. Might be this years luxury purchase.

Oldest garment here is a jumper I’ve had since I wax a teenager so it’s about 40 years old. Grey with a white diagonal stripe across it. The Mrs hates it.
Then there’s a small amount of designer stuff an ex bought for me about 20 years ago in a failed attempt to make me trendy. Says “ Petroleum” on it. Fairly faded and stained now with all sorts of sealants oil and gasket compounds.
Modern jumpers don’t seem to last. The armpits go after about 2 months continuous use.

Did you steal the jumper off them afterwards...?!

My mother knitted me a jumper when I was around 8 or 9. Home spun wool from a jacob sheep. It was pretty much the only jumper I had so was worn far too much for about 3 years. At last it was agreed I’d out grown it so with trepidation I looked forward to its replacement.
I was horrified when I came home from school to find 4” extensions added to the waist and sleeves , clearly spun from a different fleece!

As mainly a pig farmer I have become used to scrimping over the years in the bad times (like the last 12 months)

You live off your depreciation, rather like an arable farmer having a potash and phosphorus holiday.

I bought one new tool last year, for about £80 for example, mangae with what you have got.

I refuse to straighten old nails though - FIL did that all the time.

I don`t have the latest Iphone, I buy refurbished for half the price
Run a sim only contract for £6 a month
Have no landline, don`t need one £6 a month sim covers all I need
I would bet the majority of people who claim to be on the breadline wear Nike trainers not because they might last longer

Phosphate and maybe potash holiday next year.
Nitrogen, well will be able to get any?
Will all be home saved seed in case we can’t drill due to lack of N.
No glyphosate available to buy so conserving what little I’ve got for emergencies.
Using my up my stack of plough steel which should last a couple of years.
Combine won’t be refurbed this year. Just try to make it go “just one more time” like the last 15 years.😆
My Mate paid £240 for for 20 litres yesterday , I'm sure it's not that dear is it ?

was somewhere around 10 pound a litre :unsure:when we first bought some 40 odd yrs ago iirc , Gramoxone seemed cheap in comparison , and worked far quicker at a speed which we were used to.

In latter days it had got too cheap imo, that can make you take yr eye off the ball .
