PTO on my McCormick Cx105 is always slowly turning when not engaged and has very little power on start up of a machine . Blocked straw chopper due to tiny amount of straw in turbine on start up . Does this mean a new clutch is needed and if so is it a big job ?

If it was built before mid 2004, it's a matter of removing the 4wd drop box, pulling the shaft out the back and the PTO pack comes out the drop box hole. After that date, it'll need splitting. Don't know the exact date though......

I have replaced a PTO clutch on a Doncaster IH. It was not too difficult a job but I would get the clutch pack assembled by a pro if in doubt. I knacked the piston seals on first attempt.

You can understand more if you will check oil pressure on clutch pack. sometime solenoids leaks oil and oil pressure engage clutch pack. I will try to check before remove clutch pack.

But would that also cause lack of PTO power when engaged ? would be nice cheap fix if so but dealer never mentioned that when I described the symptoms.

Its your machine so you should know what jobs was doing and how many times you have blocked. every time you block you will worn clutch. I have customer which blocked staw chopper and he try to unblock with tractor, so now his tractor is in bits. It just easear to understand if you will put pressure guage and watch pressure when engage. If pressure goes up to system pressure quick after engage and chopper not engage quick then you can say that clutch pack worn. If you think that you worn clutch pack just pull in bits and check :) Will attach some info
