Think yourself lucky you don't live on the route of this https://velobirmingham.com/the-ride/
On Sunday September 24 2017 in the heart of Birmingham, 15,000 cyclists will line up to start their unforgettable 100 mile route on completely closed roads, taking them through the picturesque Worcestershire and Herefordshire countryside before returning to Birmingham.
That is very close to me and will cause absolute chaos on the roads round here with many being closed 8am to 6 pm. A very similar event happens near London every year. This is a first for Birmingham but is stirring the B & B commuters up in their green and pleasant land, not to mention disrupting working folk. I can't comment to much as my wife and son are participating in it. It is a good leisure activity as it does give me peace and quiet most Sunday's. They go Cycling in the morning followed by a kip in the afternoon:D:D:whistle:. What's not to like?:)

Afternoon delight!?

You get groups of 5 or 6 here about 20ft apart.

If you have a tractor with 32ft trailer loaded with straw it's almost impossible to overtake both groups and safely get in again.

There's a road near here that's terrible for it, theres usually a race or a time trial going on, and if not they're practising, I've asked a couple of times, and they say they've got a permit, but never anything to show.

My argument is that they're racing, so they're in a different mindset to other road users.
Now I'm no history buff, but I am pretty sure that the bicycle was around before the motorcar so as the newcomer I would think that motor vehicles should give way to bicycles!?

So we might aswell revert back to mud tracks then?

The time trial lot are mad , the A19 through teeside is used by them quite often at weekends and it would just seem mad to me to pedal your bike down a very busy duel carriageway for fun , if there where ever away to substantially increase your risk of death that would be it.
On the whole though they are ok except one local village where they have races in summer evenings , the start even has a white line painted across the road ! and as mentioned some old boy standing around stopping the traffic for 5 to 6 mins while they set off. Its ok , ive got nowt better to do but wait here for your lot !!!!!! Imagine the reaction i would get if did that on there corner of suburbia !!!

I remeber years ago a cycle race up a very steep local hill , I was moveing the combine from fileld to field , header trailer on the back and one of them grabbed on the reel as i passed him and was getting a tow up the hill, I could not pull back over the road to get back on my side as he was along side the trailer wheel , i eased back over hoping he would get the hint , still hanging on , then some more , but hes still there , finally he got a wheel into a pile of grit on the verge and fell off ! Just maybe he learnt something from that :ROFLMAO:

Don't get me wrong it can frustrate me as much as anyone, but when you look back a year later is nearly killing someone's son/dad really worth dodgy overtaking manoeuvres!!
Although I do wonder if a loud dukes of hazard air horn may work for them to pull over

We have a charity walk through the farm on the roman wall trail this morning, the third in three weeks. Despite the trail being clearly marked and even mown by the national park guys they feel they have to stick a pink flag in every 6 yards. They have excelled themselves this morning by missing the trail and making a path through a field of freshly calved limmy cows so have had to spend half an hour moving all their pink flags to the correct ( and safest route ). If it wasn't for a good cause someone would be getting a bollocking:banghead:
Don't hold back. They need to know.

I was following one up our valley one day. It's a very narrow road with passing places and a long climb. I was in the pickup with stock trailer behind but the effing cyclist wouldn't pull in for me to pass. After a couple of miles I was within feet of his back wheel. At one point the road widens slightly and he signalled aggressively for me to pass though he hadn't looked back once while I was behind him. I went to pass him but as soon as the pickup passed him he pulled out and hit the trailer. Luckily he bounced off and hit the fence. This was followed by a stream of abuse which I could hardly hear as I was laughing so much. Tosser!

There are plenty of folk ready to say tractors should pull over to let traffic past. I have yet to see a cyclist do that.
I've seen plenty pull over around here and let me past. If you follow them at a respectful distance and don't drive up close blipping the throttle they generally let you past.

I'd one stroker I pulled out in front of overtake me into the path of an oncoming artic. Then gave me fingers. I then got stuck behind him for several miles.

I guess it's only one of the problems of an ever increasing population on a small island made worse with a lot of people who are time poor and others who think it's their right to do what ever it is. I worked with someone who went away for the weekend when London marathon was on as they felt like that they was held prisoner in their own home when it's on. What one person thinks is great another think it's hell.

Yesterday's event was a 300km ride, and a mate of mine (a farmer from Llanrhystud) finished second. Looking at his Strava record, his max speed down past yours @GTB would have been just over 30mph, averaging 24mph. I doubt many would have been faster than him down there.

He would have been on a bike which I'd say roughly set him back over £5k, which has state of the art brakes, so I doubt he'd have had too much trouble stopping if need be from those speeds.

I live near an A road, which is a bit of a rat run from the valleys. It's been a couple of weeks now since the last motorbike fatality, but this time of year they are unfortunately far too common an occurrence. I'd much rather see 60 cyclists than 60 motor bikes...

You may well be right that they were only doing 30 mph but it looked a lot faster and the worst thing is you don't hear them coming. No other vehicle is allowed to race on the road so why are bikes allowed to? When a car rally passes here they put a leaflet through our letterbox to inform us about the event even though they only pass here late at night and in any case they don't actually race past our yard. Never get any prior notification from cycle events and to be blunt their holier than thou attitude stinks.
