Cylinder re sleeving in situ

We have a Ford 4000 that is burning oil and I think a re bore will be necessary.

Has any body any experience of in situ cylinder boring? Sounds a lot less hassle with out taking crank shaft out etc.

A recommendation of somebody in Yorkshire would be good!

We have used a guy before i will try and find his name for you not much help now i know
If havnt got sorted already

On this subject any one got a rough idea of price? We've got a 3 cyl block that the gungeon pin drifted out and scored one cylinder. Had a quote locally for £580 to rebore and sleeve. Though it was astronomical of a price as we had stripped it down and were going to drop it in for them.

We've chucked a 4 cyl powerstar in a 3900 for now to wait for a better solution and may fit a 6 cyl in the 4000 soon aswell as it won't start in the mornings!!!

I used a chap from up North, excellent service, forget his name but he does advertise, google Mobile engine rebores. He did 4 pots, bored out and then fitted std sized liners, decked them, honed, all done within about 3 hrs. think it was circa £450-£500. This included travel to and from the job, liners and obviously his labour.
But it was a bloody good job, very little swaf to be found after.
He used an American boring machine, sits flat on the top of the block and then clamps on at the bottom of the block down one of the other pots. There was then a very powerful hoover attachment to suck up any swaf.

Had a 8210 done about 20 years ago by a bloke from Lincoln. He had a very similar machine. He called it a Boring Bar. It was an ex WW2 RAF tool. Absolutely fascinating to watch him do it. Top class job when he'd finished.
