D max brakes

Hi folks. New on here! My 2014 D-max Yukon has just gone through another set of pads and it looks like discs as well this time. Both were changed at 24000 miles by Isuzu under warranty (something to do with problems with original discs). They then told me I needed new pads and discs again at 36000 miles and wouldn't cover them this time as they said it was my "driving style" that caused it! Went to my local garage, who said there was nothing wrong with the discs and just fitted new pads (good quality). 6000 miles later, and the pads are shot and the discs look very worn and scored. Has anyone else had problems like this? I wonder if it's anything to do with the state of the roads this year, and grit getting thrown into the brakes? Starting to go off the D-Max as MPG seems to also be dropping away now. Thanks.

If fuel economy is being affected, then binding brakes and seized calipers would be top of my investigation list.

Check the pistons for score marks or dirt and corrosion. I never had any long term success in cleaning them myself, and now just fit new ones in such circumstances

As above. Something seriously wrong somewhere.
My 2016 dmax done 65000 and pads and discs look like new.
Plenty of motorway miles admittedly but equally plenty of braking with trailer on

Automatic or manual?
Towbar?
Owner driven?

Back brakes don't do much (20%) unless you have weight on .............

In practice though they seem to be wearing out more on ABS equipped vehicles, it's not unusual for rear pads to wear as quick as fronts (or sometimes even be the first on wear indicators (smaller pads)) Driving style does make a lot of difference though

Not uncommon at all as my mate had exactly the same on his D Max auto at around 12k miles the brakes had just worn out and needed pads and discs

I dont think the wear rate at 12k miles is all that bad. My front pads are usually changed each 12k service, because they are around or more than. 50% worn, the theroy being it wont need to be done as a separate job in between.

I admit though that my driving style is quite hard on the breaks

The garage may be doing the same for you.

Disks however should see at least 2 sets of pads out, and scoring under normal circumstances and use should be minimal

Sorry, should have said. Manual and towing 3.5t occasionally. Mainly runs of 90 miles each way once a week, with a bit of running around country roads and occasional forest tracks. Very little motorway driving! As I said, the first set lasted 24000 miles and it is only since they changed them that I have started having issues. My local garage did the pads last year and i remember him saying he got good quality ones. He is going to have a look in the morning to see what is needed this time.

Thats easy to check, the wheels would be abnormally hot.

Are they using cheap pads? Fit some EBC green stuff. Or it could be your driving style? If it’s a sticking calliper it would only affect one side... more to this than meets the eye?
