D Max EGR valve

2015 D max with 75k on clock. Seems to be a fraction down on power and fuel consumption is up (would expect to get 330-350 miles to a tank but now struggle to get 300)
Dealers had a look and plugged it in at last service but couldn't see anything. Thought it might be egr valve.
Would a faulty egr give those symptoms?

Don't really know anything about egr valves. Heard about them needing cleaning.
Is it a diy job to swap it?

Down on power and fuel consumption....recon it’s pulling a bit more weight around after Christmas....

Look at the simple stuff before going down the (admittedly fashionable) road of blaming the emissions kit on the engine.

Does it by chance have a slightly binding brake caliper or handbrake shoe? Are the fuel and/or air filters in need of a change? Etc...

Always check the simple stuff first. I once had a friend bring me his very expensive Italian exotica because nobody else could give him a clue as to why it had a misfire. All sorts of diagnostic equipment had been connected up causing coil packs and sensors to be swapped out, all to no avail. First thing I did was check the spark plugs, which revealed the number one cylinder plug was only finger tight and so the cylinder couldn't get any compression. After chucking £3k at his complicated engine problem, I finally solved it with a half turn on a ratchet.

Sounds like the bloke had more money than good sense. He actually paid out £3K and didn’t get the problem fixed by the garage. Bloody hell!

That's the price of Ferrari parts and labour for you, and the level of competence of some of their "technicians".
Don’t worry the franchised German marques are just as bad out of warranty (even in warranty they’ll try to rob you blind...sorry “up sell” the valued client).

Find a good, reputable indy and make them your best friend if you decide run expensive cars out of warranty.

The last place you want to be headed is a franchised garage with polished marble floors, a dolly or three up front and an expensive froth machine and sky in the reception.

I'm no stranger to both sides of the franchised dealer. I spent 6 years in the workshop of a franchised Fiat/Alfa/Lancia dealer, and have bought plenty of German and Italian expensive stuff since - both 2 wheeled and 4.

A good franchised dealer is about the staff they employ and the training they are given in my opinion. The flooring, coffee machine and television habits have nothing to do with it.

Independents are good and bad also. Luckily I don't have to deal with either unless I want to, assuming I can fit my own car around all the 'favours' I do for everyone else of course.... :/

It's always been dealer serviced in or before it's time so I'd hope the simple things have been checked. They said it pointed to the egr valve but as it's out of warranty now I would be doing it myself. If it's possible

My sincere condolences! :cool::p:D

Wash your mouth out. I won't have anything bad said about my beloved Italian cars. That they occasionally leave you at the side of the road in a cloud of steam is all part of their charm. :p

Swapping an EGR valve is certainly well within the realms of a DIY job, it's only a few bolts and a gasket on most engines.

I'm just suspicious of blaming it without any supporting evidence. Personally I would let it develop and see if it starts throwing any fault codes. If you're satisfied it's not something simpler then it could just as easily be a faulty injector or air flow meter, but one that hasn't yet gone far enough out of tolerance to trip up the ECU.

I’m down to one Italian bike now. She is the mistress. I was almost tempted again last year, but managed to extract myself from the dealer before I made another (of many) mistake the wife would never forgive me for, again...a second mistress :ROFLMAO::D

Ah yes, the 'other woman' thing.

An Italian car was almost the end of my relationship with Mrs Beowulf before it really got started. On our second ever liason I arrived to take her to dinner in a bright yellow Lancia Delta Integrale. The future Mrs B took one look at it and declared she wasn't going to be seen dead in THAT, and I should go back and return in a 'proper car'.

Thankfully she's mellowed a bit since, and tolerates the other women in my life. Apparently if I'm cocooned in my workshop honing an engine block or rebuilding a gearbox then at least she knows where I am, and what I'm getting up to.

I use 10k boost egr cleaner in all my vehicles and tractors. De carbons valves and cleans out the Egr on the Isuzu well. So much so when I first did it I was surprised at the difference and the diet it chucked out.
