Picked up an 09 Navara cheap recently that seems really sluggish compared to another I have driven. Changed fuel filter. But no real difference. Turbo isn't noisy. Checked the obvious things like boost hose off or split etc. No engine management light on. Usually get a puff of smoke about 35mph in 3rd then it's seems to get going. Is there a second filter?

Which engine , my 3 ltr turbo lag up to 2000rpm and then it comes to life .
I think both the 2.5 and 3 ltr are fitted with two stage turbos .
Try giving it some high revs, give it a good burn out .

D40 Auto hesitates when accelerating from rest

Hi All. My Auto Aventurer has always hesitated slightly when accelerating from rest, but lately it seems to be worse. It really does just creep forward for a second or two and then burst into life. Im finding i need to push down the accelerator harder to get it moving, but then back off as it will then fly forward. Truck is just coming up to 100,000 miles.

Any ideas, as not sure whether its engine (possibly MAF) or gearbox.

There are a few possibilites.

Firstly - how new is the fuel filter and air filter? The D40 is particularly sensitive to blocked fuel filters.

Other areas that may help: cleaning the maf, use the same cleaner to squirt into the boost control solenoid, check for any leaks in the intake air system, if you don't do any motorway driving the dpf might need a regeneration. (none of this will cost you more than a can of maf cleaner.)

In the hot weather a turbo diesel will always be a bit more sluggish.

Check in here ,Where my finger is pointing
can build up with suit in there,
I have also blanked it off with a piece of tin like a gasket bolt into place and been good since ,if It starts losing power take it off and clean it and go again

You can blank the egr off but the valve still has to work. Mine got stuck open and lost all power….. you could get the revs but no power at all. Exhaust smelt like fresh tarmac. Replaced egr and blocked it off.
