Dagenhart front PTO

Dagenhart front pto dealer fitted to 7530 cutting out intermittently. Not entirely sure why checked all the obvious but it’s still doing it. Doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold. Sometimes fires straight up again sometimes have to wait for a period of time. Do these have a filter? And what oil should they run on?

Many thanks in advance

What are you calling the control box??
The fault will be more than likely the solenoid, wiring or possibly a small controller located behind the RH side of the radiator. It softens the PTO engagement, it's a PTO part, not a JD part..

I was thinking that it might be that small controller behind the radiator. Can you have them repaired? Assume the only way to find out would be to test the voltage coming out when the switch is engaged?

Did have a lot of problems with those front PTO with oils. If you used hyguard in them like the rest of the tractor it was too thick for it.

Best thing for it was low viscosity hyguard. Helped them on start up. The other thing you can do is to just try running it without a filter, if you drain the oil and it’s clean that is. If it runs with no filter it does sort of prove that the oil you are using is too thick!

The last one that I did with a similar fault, had power at the 4 pin connection at the front of the engine. It will only light a test light for a short while until it realises there's no solenoid and cuts the power.
I cut the controller out and bypassed it as a temporary fix. I think the PTO was a bit savage until a new control unit arrived..
