Our vermin control plan says 'cats'. Just waiting for some twit to want a plan for where the cats are hunting.
We are very fortunate to have ferral cats visit our farm regularly. They definitely seem to keep the vermin under control. I know some people who have their own cats and RT insist on the worming tablets being recorded in the medicine book! I don't think I want to try worming the feline visitors to our farm!

Our 3 semi-feral cats all look incredibly healthy. Never wormed. The old (neutered) Tom Cat must be about 15 years old now and has a crumpled ear and is a bit stiff in his joints but he has bright eyes and a nice shiny coat. His (spayed) ladies are a picture of health and beauty. They get milk and cat biscuits to keep them 'home' as they do such a good job on the rats and mice there is little for them to eat and I'd rather they kept off the songbirds (feral pigeons round the yards are fairy game though).

Looks like only 2000 farmers replied to the dairy consultation out of 3000 correspondants. Would be interesting to see what the make up of the other 1000 were.

Can't remember what the other categories were. I was going to tick 'other' because I am a farm employee not a farmer but it then it didn't give me anywhere to write employee in so I changed to farmer.

Although i didn't take part in red tractors consultation last year ( i presumed it would be a waste of time) it would seem from my recent audit they have created alot more nonsense regulations ,and i found the inspection a real nuisance . Given the fairly widespread dislike of the red tactor gravy train, and that we are possibly in a stronger position to do something about it, (milk shortages). Is it time we worked together to get some type of farm assurance re- form. Or in other words have a big push to get rid of red tractor which now seems completely unfit for purpose i.m.o
I've raised the issues i have with our processor, so hopefully will hear something back, but i'm very annoyed with r.t and would like to play a part in getting rid of it, at least from the dairy side of things.
