Just a bit of insurance against getting hit again really. I'm looking at it more as a protective thing than trying to support my knee because as you said, I need it to strengthen up by itself.

If it's the hinged type i had i wouldnt want to wear it working. Have a look at the elastic type ones. Much better for everyday type stuff.
