Danger to children 'Small Butterfly'

Fecking barstewards.

Apologiies, but it makes me seethe. There are some very disturbed people around hiding behind the web.

Not just there either. A couple of nights ago I had a call, No Caller ID, but foolishly I answered it.

A grown mans voice said hello after me, then a very clear toddler age voice said “excuse me, why are you killing me?” before the caller hung up.

It’s really bothering me.

...Not sure what sort of punishment such a person should face but it shouldn’t be within the law 😡
It isn't within the law, the Suicide Act makes encouraging suicide a crime... not much help if they are in a foreign and unfriendly jurisdiction though. :(

(Forgot to add that they could get fourteen years for it)

You misunderstood my point, I don’t think there’s a legal punishment that fits the bill for this sort of thing, the sort of justice that needs dishing out to these twits wouldn’t be legal

There certainly are some very sick individuals out there. Lets face it, sometimes us country folk can be a bit 'out of touch' when it comes to stuff like this, so a (y)to the teacher from me for helping point us in the right direction. It all helps protect our next generation. Mine are 14 and 9 and still want to wrap'em up in cotton wool.

The really horrible thing is that mine are all still in primary school... fortunately they aren't on any social network other than Hwb, which is safe.

Been having a sniff about, am I missing something? Cannot find anything like this on facebook
I'm not on it so can't say either way, it is entirely possible that it was stamped out pretty quickly; in any case, it's the sort of thing that it's better for as many parents to know of a.s.a.p., below is the text of the Head's e-mail:

Mae wedi dod i'n sylw bod grwp erchyll a niweidiol o'r enw 'Small Butterfly' wedi cael ei greu ac yn cael ei rannu ar wefan Facebook, i ddenu ac annog plant i wneud niwed angheuol a lladd eu hunain. Mae Heddlu De Cymru yn ymchwilio i'r mater, ond gofynnwn hefyd i chi fel rhieni wirio unrhyw gyfrif a allai fod gan eich plentyn ar wefannau cymdeithasol, er mwyn sicrhau nad ydynt wedi dod i gysylltiad gydag unrhyw beth tebyg. Er y teimlwn nad yw'n addas i drafod cynnwys y grwp gyda'r plant os nad ydynt wedi clywed amdano, rydym yn credu ei bod hi'n bwysig eich bod chi fel rhieni yn ymwybodol ohono. Fe'ch anogwn i gadw llygad ar unrhyw gyfrifon cymdeithasol sydd gan eich plentyn yn gyson, er mwyn sicrhau eu diogelwch.
Diolch yn fawr iawn am eich cydweithrediad.

It has come to our attention that there is a very disturbing and harmful group called 'Small Butterfly' on Facebook, that attracts and encourages children to severely harm themselves and to commit suicide. South Wales Police are investigating the matter, but we also ask you as parents to monitor any social media accounts that your child may have, to ensure that they haven't come across anything like this. Although we don't feel that it's appropriate to discuss the purpose of this group with the children, we thought that it was important for you as parents to be aware of it. We also encourage you to keep a regular eye on any social media accounts that your children may have to ensure their safety.
Thank you very much for your cooperation.

I have no doubt your post was entirely serious, however I frequently come across posts which a cursory inspection shows up as a dubious story circulating the net anything up to ten years ago which has been revamped.

This one is odd as it does not appear on any simple search, which if genuine you would expect it to be all over the place

I can't add any more since I don't know any more; it's possible my children's Head and - presumably - others have either been taken in by a very poor joke, or that they are perpetrating one, or that his e-mail account has been hacked. Those seemed and still seem unlikely, so I've no regrets about flagging this up - I'd rather be wrong than negligent in passing on information about what could be very dangerous. (y)

Nonetheless, I'll e-mail him and see if he can shed any more light on it...

Always worth checking the truth before forwarding chain emails. How many times do we get the “missed parcel card with telephone call costs £300” warnings coming around and yet it’s all nonsense.

Yes, however the source is somewhat different in this instance and I don't class a safety warning from the Headmaster as a 'chain email'; this morning I have received a reply from the Head:

Hi Xxxxxx, this was passed on to us from the Authority.
Hopefully the police have been able to shut them down now.

Many Thanks

So, regardless of how serious this eventually turns out to be, I have no concerns in having passed on the info., what with it coming from the school's Headmaster who, in turn, received it from either the County Council's or WAG's education department. (y)
