Dare I ask!! Permission to metal detect

Hi Guys, I pretty much know the answer to this question having read through numerous simular requests, but I am in the old school frame of mind of nothing ventured nothing gained. So on that note are there any kind farmers that would graciously share their fields for me and my son to Metal detect. This is a very unusual hobby I must admit, but even the NHS allow me to have time off occasionally to persue my family interests. I really am not fussed where the location is but anywhere in southern England would be awesome. I do not wish to pester you guys as I know you are very very busy folks. You might laugh at this but my hospital has just put me through a Lantra Tractor Driver Course!! Apparently I am now able to drive tractors. Many thanks for reading this guys. I look forward to my refusals. Best regards Tim

Well I am very very new to this Forum and I really am struggling a little, so I thought I would not be too cocky with my words and posts till I get a bit more confident around the whole forum, for that reason I do apologise if my incessant posts are gratting a little. Best regards Tim

That's fair enough

Welcome to the Forum

I just replied to your PM where, to be fair, you did ask how to approach this

People seem to have bad experiences but surely as long as there's trust on both sides there shouldn't be a problem? If other metal detectorists have caused problems for the trustworthy ones then they have let their hobby down badly and only have themselves to blame.
I would have no problem with them as long as there was a proper agreement in place.
But then I would say that, I'm in Cumbria!!

Many thanks for your words Raider, I believe that you have hit the nail on the head. I think trust has sadly broken down and manly due to some bad egg detectorists spoiling it for everyone. I really don't blame any landowner for being cautious and little suspicious of folk wanting to enter onto their property. How many times do we read about agricultural properties being raided in the night and equipment being stolen. CUMBRIA!! not sure exactly how far away from me that county is, I will check. All the best Tim
