Dash cams

One of my guys had a very close shave yesterday. We were talking about dash cams in the tractors. The usual google ranges from cheap chinese to expensive named brands. I just want something that’s simple to fit/use and is not hassle.

Quite prepared to pay for something that will last. Any advice?

Nextbase were offering a discount to NFU members. We have a few of the Nextbase ones. Simple to fit and no issues after 6 years.

I saw a YouTube review recently that found all the dash cams they tested were based on one of two camera units and the image quality was not good on all of them regardless of price.

If they had to be able to read a number plate at 20 meters like human divers should then none of them would be on the road.

Run them in all vehicles and the lorries. Twice now i have needed footage and the SD card has packed in prior. 2 options either test them every week or our newest truck i have installed a Black Vue which has a sim card and uploads to the cloud and you can remote view back 48 hours.

I have resisted the hassle and cost of dashcams, but I think its something we need to do. Trouble is if we equip everything that goes on the road (incl cars etc) we need 15.
You can guarantee the only vehicle that has not got a dash cam will be the one involved in an accident.

15 x £80 = £1200, might be a good investment.

We bought Road Angels (hard wired in, front and back cameras) to keep insurance company happy, and the twice I needed footage off mine it had turned itself off, didn’t seem to get on with any make of SD card.
Bought a cheapo durite one from Spaldings and it’s done 4 years never missed a beat, plugs into fag lighter and suction pad to windscreen. could have it moved in a minute.
