Datamars Livestock UK facilitate the tagging of several million animals each year and supply the UK Agri trade from the supply, service and distribution centre in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and Ballycastle in Northern Ireland.

Three distinct product divisions exist within Datamars;

Livestock Identification (LID)

Traceability and management begins with identifying your livestock. We have a comprehensive range of tagging solutions providing high retention, reliable EID readability and visual colour identification for both Official and Non-Official tags.

Animal Health Delivery Systems (AHDS)

We understand that keeping your animals fit and healthy is of the utmost importance to you. Our oral drenchers, pour-on guns, vaccinators, injectors and intranasal delivery applicators are tried and trusted for accuracy, efficiency, ease of use and durability.

Farm Resource Management (FRM)

Time and labour-saving technology for EID reading, weighing and recording to monitor livestock growth performance, readiness for market, medicating at the correct weight, recording withholding periods and upkeep of stock movement records.

Electric fencing and a range of hand tools assists with both permanent or temporary fencing solutions holding livestock securely and efficiently on pasture and forage ground.

Introducing the new Speedrite A15Xi Energiser from Datamars.

Innovative technology for the professional farmer that revolutionises the way power is delivered to a fence line.

The innovative technology contained within the Speedrite A15Xi provides the power previously attained from a large energizer whilst complying with the latest European standard. The European Commission introduced amendment to restrict energisers to a maximum 15J output energy and stipulated a delay period when changing from below 5J to above 5J. This limitation to the output energy in turn limited the voltage on the fence from conventional compliant energizers and consequently the ability to reliably contain animals reduced. The A15Xi has increased the available power from a 15 Joule energiser by using innovative technology that changes the way the electric pulse is emitted from the unit. This means that the power sent out from an A15Xi at 15 Joules can produce the same power, or even more when load is applied to a fence line as a 36 Joule energiser would.

The A15Xi incorporates an IPC (Inductive Power Coupler) which is smart technology in a separate power pack that addresses the issues of power surges that can damage an energizer. Some areas around the world suffer from power surges due to lightning strikes. Datamars have designed new technology that effectively isolates the power unit, through an IPC. The IPC is important as it provides the following features:
  • Integral to A15Xi’s higher output power.
  • Provides isolation from the Mains to Fence and from Fence to the Mains.
  • Will resist lightning strikes of up to 100 kV.
  • Conventional energizers limited to 25 kV isolation.
  • Protects the A15Xi from damaging surges.
  • Easy to insert and remove.
  • Will only provide power when connected to A15Xi.
  • Indicates when a medium or heavy load is seen on the fence.
Ask @Ali @ Datamars or @John @ Datamars today to find out more!

Two nasties in lambs and calves-treatment for Nematodirus is commonly by oral drench and the SCOPS Nematodirus Forecast and local advice for early intervention is essential. With Coccidiosis, the effect once identified if treated, is lessened but prevention is preferred.

On pasture, oocysts can remain over winter even so if the field was contaminated the previous season pasture rotation the following year should be followed.

Our Animal Health Delivery Systems (AHDS) from Simcro and NJ Phillips include a variety of sizes of drenchers for adults and lambs. They are highly accurate, many with High Flow Valves (HFV) and dual fitting barbs so wider tubes can be used allowing quicker treatment and for thicker drenches to flow through smoothly. They also come with high-quality tubes, connectors and springs preventing kinks in pipes again increasing flow rate and preventing air bubbles. Many in the range possess Service Kits too.

Farm Resource Management (FRM) solutions from Tru-Test include EID Stick and Panel Readers so animals possessing an EID tag can have their treatment date recorded. The Tru-Test XRS2 Stick Reader has an Alerts function to identify treated animals and pre-selected animals. Weigh scale indicators with Load bars help to establish the weight of animals to be treated. The Tru-Test S3 records livestock weights onscreen or uses Bluetooth to connect to mobile devices.

Livestock Identification Systems (LID) include EID tagging solutions including TagFaster, Z for sheep and Rubba tags offering accurate tagging and reading by EID Stick Readers.

Get Going with Grazing

Put the stock in at about 2700 / 3000 Kg of dry matter per hectate (DM/HA) for cattle, which equates to a grass height just above your ankle in wellingtons. Take them out at about 1500 KG/HA. Then put them into the paddock that has the most grass and start again until they are ready to move. Go in at slightly lower levels for sheep so that they clean the grass up efficiently.

The rule of three’s. Rye grass grows in a three leaf cycle and you want to be grazing at 2.5 to 3 leaf stage to get optimum value, which roughly equates to the above growth stages for grazing. Recovery is key to re growth and so removal of stock at the right residuals is critical to rest the grass and the soil and that will ensure that the paddock is ready to be grazed again in three weeks’ time, which falls in line with your 24 day rotation.

Speak to our reps to find out how to utilise Electric Fencing to get more from your grass!
