If you take the floor mat out of the cab there's a steel plate in the floor that will let you get the sender unit with pickup pipes out of the tank you should soon see if that's your problem

Not on all, maybe on 1494's , the number of times I've cursed DB for not having a lift out floor like the Marshall did

Well we've got 6 David browns one of them is a 996 all of which have the original fuel pick up pipes so converting them to use fuel from the bottom of the tank isn't necessary

Also run 996 and no probs with it 1490 has had probs in past did have can of fuel tied to loader frame and was OK.which makes me suspect pickup pipe got pinhole .mechanic mate demons same

I'd probably just mend the pickup pipe but I can see where your coming from, it's another way of doing it, I've worked on a lot more than 6 aswell don't worry ;)

if its a 996 the stand pipe is welded in the tank and not easy replaced . feeding out the bottom with a filter is a much better idea . plus you can drain water

I know where you're coming from but 30 year ago it wasn't embarrassing . I not had my hands on one since and hopefully never will again
Aye, some of us were working on DB's and Cases 30 years ago, just don't forget to tie down the diff lock if you ever pull out the right reduction.
