Up until 1980 every wheeled tractor on our farm was red and white, even the 780 that should have been brown I know but it got painted to match the others .

What did you change to?
Did you have implematics in this colour scheme also?
Great photos even though I'm not the biggest fan of dB, it's great to see a bit history in which I appreciate.
Hi , the only DB I remember before these was a 990 that was red with yellow wheels . I have a pic of me sat on it somewhere but I was only 2 .
After the DB s we went on to JD for a while then to case IH , we had new 1056xl with a TB turbo that lasted about a wk before it suffered a catastrophic engine failure ! We ended up with a 1255xl to replace it . We had a standard 1056xl that was a brilliant tractor . After that came a 5120 and a 5140 . We are now all JD .

Great, it's nice the hear difference in brands over the years
I bet you wish you still had the 1255 unless you do that is.
I bet the 51 range was a pleasure to use back then too.

I loved the 1255 it was shod on 650 trelliborgs which seemed bloody Huge in 1989 it was the year I left school , that summer I started with the 1056 turbo (Big Bang and popped a leg out ) then was loaned a 956 xl ( not powerful enough) a very early 5130 that to me was like getting in the space shuttle , it was the first tractor I had seen with a left hand F/R shuttle ( no neutral which caught me out a few times and pushed the grain elevator up the heap ) that tractor had steel panneled door bottoms that I don’t think I’ve seen on one since . We then were given a magnum to have a go with (about 155hp I think ) but the pto stuck to far out the back so we couldn’t do the job the tractor was for as we didn’t want to cut our pto shaft down ( Celli Spader ) . After all that we brought the 1255 xl and kept it until about 94 when it was replaced by a JD 4455 . I forgot to mention that between the Case IH and Move to JD we did buy a couple of NH ( we don’t talk about this period in our machinery history much ) one (8360) was a really nice tractor but some toe rag torched it the other (8560) had 24 months of gearbox issues until NH finally said it needs a new box , they got one ordered and fitted in 48 hrs and it was never anymore trouble but the damage was done and the confidence in the brand was gone . Had that tractor been burned and we had been left with the good one it may have been a different story . As I said before were now All JD and it would take a lot to change that .

Another great in depth reply thank you very much,
My old 5140 a j reg was the same no neutral and tin bottom doors
They went to glass panels abit later on then plus got the neutral and better wiring I think.
Also used an 8360 for few years never any bother rather thirsty but could pull like a train.

Bet the turbo had something to do with it blowing up or just very very bad luck?
