Sadly @shumungus I don't think you will get an answer that will be relevant when on a contract no one will be willing to jeopardise a contract by this sort of disclosure. In many cases all costs are structured into what the end price will be.
A bit of info for you though A little stall at the end of my road that buys eggs in and charges £3.50 a dozen for free range, it is a very busy stall. What the purchasers are not aware of is that they are bought in, when I have spoken to any of the purchasers.

Thanks for the reply @Chickcatcher and to clarify I'm not necessarily looking for an exact figure or to take someone to task it's just that an issue came up recently and the question was asked 'I wonder what broiler growers are paying in the mainland for day olds?' That's why I asked the question, any one can pm me if they want, anonymity is guaranteed. I was just looking for a ballpark figure.

I suppose I was trying to give shumungus some sort of answer to explain why no answer was forth coming to his question and throwing in just what a retail egg price was close to me.
I am aware what difficulty some egg producers are having in selling there produce yet close to me price or quantity of sales doesn't seem to be a problem

I thought 35p was a ball park figure for chick cost, but it could be much more than that. I operate on a "money for nothing and the chicks for free" basis, so I've no idea what they cost.

I know day olds are in short supply thanks to the impact of AI on the supply chain. "We can't get them for love nor money" was an expression I heard a week or two ago.
