DD on livestock farm

We direct drilled oats, beans, peas, vetch and wheat into 6 ha of permanent pasture on November the 1st. We didn’t spray off as it was for a grazing trial and to boost a bit of biodiversity. It looks really good but did go on at 200kg/ha as I wanted to use up what was in the store. All was untreated View attachment 758802
We need lots more pictures of that as it goes. That's very

What did you put it in with?

Went in with a KRM tined direct drill, we now have an old Bettinson 4 metre drill that is doing the rest of our direct drilling multi species crops

It is now about 6 inches tall, we are farming organically and will mob graze it all off in the spring, going to try a 20 species crop in the spring. We are aiming to boost our tonnage of dry matter and give the soil a boost. All this has had is green waste compost in mid October
That sounds very interesting. Could even be a thread by itself I'd love to see more of it as it progresses (y)

A very old moore, establishment pictures earlier in this thread.

Sorry if it’s been covered but been looking at a Moore unidrill, we only grow grass, maize and wholecrop wheat, did you have any luck with your barley crops?

Looking to escape the plough and just level any rough bits with a rotavator and direct drill the grass and wholecrop and only turn over the very poor ground with a plough for the maize

Use the plough to establish the maize, then use that entry for the wheat and then use that entry for your grass. Simples!

Slight problem with that In that we only need 40 acres of wholecrop and 25 acres of maize and 140 acres of grass to reseed every year, happy to get contractor to plough and drill maize

Ta! Think I'll need to give it a light disc before dd back to barley this spring.
Been good fun to grow.
Your DD fodder beet. Was that drilled into a grass ley?
Did you just use the standard drill spacings?
What was your fertilizer and spray regime on it?
Sorry for all the questions but I really do want to grow a crop like you have achieved
Thanks

Only just seen this.
Used every second Coulter on the drill.
100kg /ha of N.
P, k, mang, boron, salt, etc applied to soil test recommendations.
Last year was drilled into ex swede fields.
This year we are going into barley stubble dd, irg stubble with a light disc first, pgrs fill disc first.

Drilling this years crop today, mixed the seed with granular lime so there was more volume going through the drill, we will see how it establishes!
Photo going into barley stubble, few leafy neeps made it through the winter.
