Dead lamb

Hi, I’ve had a ewe lamb tonight and she lambed the first lamb herself and some time had past and still no sign of the 2nd lamb so I intervened and pulled the lamb out. Fully formed. It took a slight breath when I had it out but it died straight away. Any ideas?

There is a long list of potential reasons for this happening such as infections and deficiencies but I would expect it was just some fairly unavoidable issue in the last few hours before birth.
It's possible it's 'cord' became broken or twisted during the first lamb being born and then didn't lamb on its own due to being dead or it may have died due to the delay in being born.
Some will say you should have intervened sooner if you were expecting a second lamb but intervention is not without risks. I wouldn't wait longer than 20/30 minutes for a second lamb without checking.

Can’t help much but we all have them so don’t worry too much

Don’t worry about it, the dead look after themselves 👍🏻
unless it happens a lot or you discover the cause then don’t think much into it
