dealer bill for fitting new fuel line on JD 130r

Thanks for all your replys.
I even went without the tractor for 8 days as they were booked out to install another new machine and was trying to tie in saving me the call out while they were out anyway. They never had time to do installation on either day so that's £400 traveling time I've paid for.
As with snapping the easy out that cost me a shed load more as had to have new manifold. Sh*t happens but wonder if they even tried heating it up...
Again I'm not expert that's why I got them to sort it.
Just annoying JD have not got any breaches within 1 hr and that costs us the customer to get them out.

Nurses, doctors and alike don’t get paid to drive to work.
They get paid for call-outs, and certainly wouldn’t do work travel for nothing. There’s a huge difference between travel to work and travel for work.

I’ll charge time and mileage for travel to client sites, as agreed in my contract with them.
Farm contractors our here will travel fifty plus mile with a tractor and baler to a decent size job but still only charge by the bale.

More fool them (and you as a customer - they just price the costs into the piece rate, you realise - far better to take it separate and then you can see what you’re paying for).

thank f**k i can do most stuff my self, im not sure how anyone cant justify these insane labour rates, (or the pee takes on mileage) this forum seems to have more knowledge than most dealers, or certainly their latest apprentice...

come back to having 2 machines for the job? at least you can wait uless it under warranty, the machines which are newish but out of warranty seem the worst on repairs...or most expensive.

I would imagine the most cost effective thing to do is find a decent local independent and use which ever brand their handy with...

i get the cost covering angle, but as an industry can you justify these costs? i certainly could not if i had to rely on them to fix stuff think i would rent my land out to some fool!

the local guy near me seems mown out with stuff...

Main dealers are for warranty only jobs aren’t they 🤷🏻‍♂️. Outside of warranty only use independents. They’ve all got the right software now as well as it’s readily available in other countries.
The dealer prices come from having the car like dealership premises which none of us need to see. It’s just increased costs and pushed their customers away to independents.

Trouble is independents are getting fewer and fewer.

I think it would be handy to have a thread on here listing them from different areas but it might be a bit too specific.

If you charge travelling as a contractor you will find yourself a very quiet contractor.

My 18 month old 130R had no 1 or 2 fuel line crack about 3 months ago. Our local dealers did it for free as they said it was a known problem with them. No extended warranty on mine, just the standard 12 months.

Suggest you see if the dealer will agree a fixed mileage rate with you, we are further away from one dealer and they did that for us to help grease the wheels both ways, we both want to keep dealing with each other.

There's an independent bloke near me that everyone thinks is great because he'll have a go at anything. Trouble is because he takes longer to work out the proper way to fix things, his lower labour rate is cancelled out. Cost £1000 to fix a problem on our defender and it happened again and.the land Rover main dealer sorted it in an hour for £110

The problem is the dealers have to pay to train new mechanics up which is expensive, then they leave for better paying jobs in companies who don't have to train staff or become independents.
Not all independents are good, there's plenty of dealer mechanics that have had to go out and fix indies stuff ups.
That works the other way as well of course.
I think if you're contracting these days you either have to keep everything under warranty, have access to or employ a mechanic or learn the trade yourself and tackle more repairs.
Not all dealer mechanics are good either!

Had a bill for a cracked fuel line from the common rail to cylinder no2, knew it wasn't a small job. John Deere 130R.
Firstly I've been charged for a fitter to look at exactly the problem I described and to order parts but luckily as passing no traveling, wouldn't moan about that alone.
The next lot I've been charged for call out and travel back? never been charged for travel back, is this normal? Our nearest dealer is 1hr away.
Had a few issues with a broken stud in the manifold that they drilled out but snapped an easy out in there, and had to do a return trip and again another here and back with the new manifold. Is this a mistake snapping the easy out or 1 of them things?

If anyone familiar with this job thinks a bill for 1700 plus vat is excessive?
Labour is near on 1200, rest parts. Just seems a lot for a small cracked fuel line that cost 57 plus vat...

F*ck me, they certainly seem to have been light with Vaseline when sending that bill.

Although on these modern machines, I doubt it was as simple as unscrewing at both ends and lifting out, so many extras on the engine these days you can barely see it now.

Not the 1st time I've heard this.
I've paid it without saying anything.
I won't be using the dealer again, tractor been on powergard my arse. Upon changing fuel filters due to fuel issue I noticed a date and hrs scratched on them. It had not been serviced in 1000hrs and if I didn't have the fuel filters to do I wouldn't have done anything till it's 2250hr service over double that was scratched on all filters.
