I believe it is a 'trade' thing so no one really knows the real price of a piece of machinery. Yes, been there, asked the price, done the deal, paid the money. There's usually some deal to be had on 'extras' which could be the icing on the cake.

If they are selling it for 20%less than they told the farmer they were giving him for it then so what? Smoke and mirrors seem to be the rule on buying new kit according to many on here, if its 20% more, well, its business not charity, and that means profit is the driver.

That may well be the case but car dealers also take part ex and publish there selling prices some adverts in magazine price there stock some don't so clearly some dealers are more enlightened than others , I think its a pretty short sighted view and i would always trust a dealer more who publish the price they are after for used equipment then one who thinks there is some or secrecy in used equipment pricing

I dont ring poa ads. Went to buy a tractor when I was 16, salesman wouldnt tell me price, thought I wasnt serious , went to another dealer, bought off him, then went back to first dealer to buy the front linkage off the tractor that i wanted to buy off him, dont know what was said but he was more than apologetic when he came out of his bosses office, and fitted linkage on the tractor lol

Once rang startin tractors to get a price for a s/h tractor,after 5 mins on phone never did get price............just wanted to know who i was etc?...all theirs are poa.... So now i never ask about any poa . just put the price on!
