Dealing with awkward neighbours

Any tips, apart from digging a deep hole.
Got an 'interesting' set here who seem intent on making things as difficult as possible for us. Started of with rumours being put about of which some has got back to me, then they have been threatening footpath users and visitors to our farm shop, and now they have been on at Landlord suggesting various things such as we don't have insurance. I can (and have) let a certain amount go but it has become very clear this isn't going to end.

I'd be marching into their house, sitting down at the kitchen table and asking them to explain exactly what the problem was.
The mother stopped my sister in law in town and went into one about me being lazy. Sister in law told my wife who then confronted neighbour who's response was 'well I can't tell anyone anything'. Sitting at the table wouldn't get anywhere with this lot.

Are these neighbours actually doing you any material harm, or just gossiping?

If the latter then leave them be, it's not worth the hassle and won't achieve anything. Any reaction will merely encourage them.

Effectively it's a form of bullying, and the best thing you can do with a bully is ignore their presence. Nothing will make a bully realise how insignificant they are than walking away from them with a smile on your face.

Have a quiet word with your landlord, assuming they are approachable, a word from them will be as likely to have an affect as anything else.

Failing that, get you solicitor to send them a letter stating that you are aware of what's been going on and that if it doesn't stop you will be taking it further.
