Dealing with companies that havent moved on with the times.

Dropped an implement to a engineering company some distance away over 5 weeks ago. Came recommended to us. So far havent heard a word. Phoned numerous time. sometimes the phone is answered, no answerphone. When I do get through the chap I need to deal with isnt there. The chap on the end of the line cannot help me in any form. Left message that I would like equipment back asap. Said they would look at it Monday. Still havent heard back.

So in 2021
No email
Occasionally phone just rings and rings
No answerphone
No call back
No social media
No diary entry with details or job no to quote on when I call.
Assume chap on phone (fitter) cannot refer to job no or have no notes to refer to so when left unattended cannot even let me know the current situation. Everytime I have to detail the machinery.

Am I supposed to give up now and hope to get phone call in 2022 and guess no use for it until then. Or do I call back and say Im coming to get it back? Thanks for the wasted journey to you but will go elsewhere.

How do these companies carry on? I assume they rely on contracts on call outs so people like us are just there to fill in the gaps when it suits?

Not impressed so far. See the reviews on google ditto.

They are about. I think they’re happy in what they’re doing and to be fair the couple of businesses like it round here always seem to be busy doing something.

I never ask them to do anything, but I’ll drop in if I need something. If they’ve got what I need I’ll buy it, but I never ask them to get it because it’s a waste of time.

On the other hand there are companies that are so into technology it is frightening. You select a product online and enter your email address and a map of where you live comes up on your screen, your phone starts ringing with a special offer and 2 emails have already been sent to your computer. They know all your buying habits via Google and you will be receiving spam for the foreseeable future. You are asked to give feedback the day the item arrives at your house, delivered by Ahmed at 3.51 who takes a photo of your front door to prove he was there. The feedback survey has several pages covering every aspect of your dealings with the company, who of course are on Faceache and Twitter, together with their Trustpilot rating. Buying a box of M20 washers it's hello Big Brother.

What you seem to have found is a “ ‘Dreckly “ engineering firm. Down here when you ask how long it may take And some old boy says “ oh ‘Dreckly my ansome “ that means anything between ready within the hour or sometime next month. Drove me insane when younger, but now like @Cab-over Pete Recommends use each to their strengths if I need it that day I don’t even bother going around to them. But if I’ve got time for a coffee and the part isn’t in any rush it’s always an educational visit with these guys

But how often does Dreckly engineering save your bacon because they're the only ones who haven't modernized and thrown out the left handed hammer or the imperial stilsons
Another thing I've heard is "do you want it done quick or do you want it done right"

But it is annoying when your waiting and can't get any sense out of people

Sounds like heaven to be able to work uninterrupted :D
It doesn't seem that long ago that phone calls would be between 7 and 8 in a morning and then again after 6pm (cheap rate) you would be out working all day, if you were lucky someone would be at home to take messages, and if they knew where you were working were able to contact you in emergency (breakdowns)
I wonder how much more productive folk were

Its sounds like a wonderful place of work,

Yesterday I set an unwelcome personal record.. over 100 phone calls..
Somebody phoned yesterday morning and I didn't save the number, went yesterday evening to store it as a contact and it wasn't on the iphone call list.
That said person will be calling me all names under the sun for not calling them back today :ROFLMAO:
Iphone? Always wondered what the memory was on mine.

I feel your pain.

Feedback surveys, if there are more than three questions I don't do them.
I had a follow up phone from one company where I couldn't be arsed doing the survey why I didn't do the feedback survey. I told the young lady on the phone that I had better things to do with my time and if they had done OK I would be dealing with them again and if not I wouldn't.
There is whole industry analysing these surveys and how the company could improve things by investing in more technology. How about employing some body with some brains to deal with customers who know the products and can communicate with the customer. Just give me the bleedy M20 washers and do your job and expect don't expect the customer to spend 15 minutes of their life ticking boxes about how wonderful a job they are doing.
And rant over:mad:.
