Dealing with depression - suicidal thoughts - Join the conversation (including helpline details)

Not only was I moved by the young boy and his father's willingness to share their experience of losing a much loved wife and mother to cancer but I also found it interesting to see the group work to support grieving family members.

When I were a boy, no one ever mentioned that a family member had died from cancer. At best, someone may say it was Big C. It was as though there was some sort of taboo attached to death from cancer. Almost as bad as saying he/she died of syphilis! Mind you; as a boy I wouldn't have known what syphilis was!

Contemplating that it is much the same today with depression/anxiety/suicide, I was pleased to read about the setting up of "SBSG CORNWALL" and the work that it is doing to support those who have lost family members and friends to suicide. The group can be found at www.sbsg-cornwall.uk or one can email [email protected]. The group have posted a contact phone number on their internet site but I decline to post that here without permission.

Perhaps the TFF could have a thread "Left Behind", for those who have lost family members to suicide. Don't forget FCN, who are always there to assist and support our farming communities.

Chris :)

Where do you start? Another sheep killed by dogs, another idiot member of public, ringing rspca, defer, and the thundercats over the lame sheep. . . . in our lame sheep, hospital paddock. Another day of being shouted at by people because some lambs got out onto their ground . . . . and another day of puddling in mud and then getting home at half 8 to work out what to eat before sleeping and starting all over again . . . . .

You're spreading yourself too thin mate. You either need less work or more help.

so why on earth do we do it?...right?:)......because it's who we are.....one day we may decide not to do it....or that day might not come?

but IMO it's that simple

Its for lambs mate. Split any lame lambs off from main mob, saves getting in 2000 lambs when you only want to jab 150 lame ones. We have separated them into a field, and gather them every few days to week and treat feet, mineral drench etc. Then draft healed lambs back to main mobs.

Ah right okay , as a side note i don't get hardly any trouble with lame lambs since getting rid of the persistently lame ewes

Yes, i'd say this is largely down to two particular tups and a handful of ewes.

Its not our farm, but one we shepherd and are working hard on making improvements.

We appeared to have largely got on top of it last year, but this year has been a difficult one.

That's a complete bummer of a day :(.
Pity the sheep watcher wasn't doing something useful, like watching the main flock and getting photos of the barsteward dog.
The kennels I use have a busybody neighbour who reports them to the spca, who ring him up then pop round and confirm that the dogs are indeed well cared for, then ignore the informant whenever they ring up after that.

You are doing a good job! The reason it hurts is because you care about your animals.
The shouty people are just ignorant gits.
The mud will dry up - one day.

Chips and beans are good.
Rice and beans is also nice.

Tomorrow will probably be better (y)
