You said to remind you why you do this. You do it because you have a dream and dreams really "can" come true.

You told me that you have been in farming all your life. I'm guessing that you lived and farmed with your parents and I'm wondering what they may have done and said when you branched out on your own?

Chris :)
I think they were sad to see me leave but are proud of what I've achieved.

Not sure I still have the dream I used to.

Since stumbling into TFF, I have learned an awful lot about you farming folk but of course not every thing that there is to learn. I have been amazed by what you do achieve in the face of adversity and untold challenges.

The nature of your business appears to isolate you from the outside world and perhaps make you more vulnerable to depression/anxiety in it's many forms. Sometimes you are so busy struggling with the day to day challenges, that you perhaps don't see your selves as the brave heroes that you actually are.

The world at large is slowly waking up to just how essential you are to our existence and are beginning to care about your wellbeing. Me; I know next to nowt about farming but there are plenty of people and organisations out here who know and understand the dilemmas that confront you daily and are only a phone call, or email away.

Chris :)

Llamedos,

very often the level builds up due to the dam gates being closed. As the gates are slowly opened the level begins to drop and power is produced and life giving water is supplied to those down stream. The swimmer can now place his or her feet on solid ground again and walk with confidence.

In life; our words and tears can act as gates to reduce the water levels of anxiety/depression in our lives.

Chris :)

I've been suffering "work related stress & anxiety" for over 18 months. When I first saw my GP he said it won't change till you sort out the root cause.

Terminated my employment this week and I'm feeling a whole lot better being unemployed than employed in a job that was making me ill. Wish i'd done this 18 months ago.
To anyone else going through the same thing, remember it's not a weakness to accept you need to move on.

PS anyone looking for a lorry driver or transport manager in Devon/Cornwall?

Been doing the same job for over ten years, but about 18 months ago the company appointed a new regional manager. He put more pressure on my manager who basicly responded by bullying his staff. Both these Managers have now "moved on" but the bullying really knocked my self confidence to the extent that I was afraid to use my initiative for fear of getting a verbal beating.

Even after a few days away from the old job, I'm feeling much more relaxed and am looking forward to a fresh challenge.

I (or anyone else in a similar situation) really should have made the change as soon as it started affecting my health.

It does knock your confidence somewhat to have a milking parlour breaking down on a fairly regular basis, milk cooling equipment going bang today, bulling heifer do the splits and needing to be dispatched, leaky water troughs and it being a little bit chilly today as well. But hey, we're living the dream right?

I've spent the morning defrosting water troughs as well. Chin up.
Sad about the heifer though.

Feel your pain, had a dead cow, one tractor wouldn't start, one the heater stopped working and the third has a gearbox problem, does get you down
