I've been having trouble sleeping lately, waking up with a load of worries in the middle of the night, so I turn the radio on low so it just burbles in the background on R4 and disprupts those negative vibes enough to get to sleep.

Also sleep with radio on.. find Classical or R5 live works best for me..

I also like the radio on all night , but trying to get to sleep in the early hours of Christmas morning , found the World Service interview with a now 97 year old Nazi War crimes Nuremberg prosecutor a bit disturbing for some reason !
Sounds like something that should be broadcast on all stations and channels at prime time.

I find this really helps, listen to radio 4 or LBC, a good talk show helps focus the mind away from all your other worries in the middle of the night...

..... although the guy on lbc at the middle of the night at the weekend dose my head in more sometime [emoji849]

Been feeling down past few days :( couple of days ago I was extremely upset and in shock... We lost 2 young heifers, 1 in calf, due to change in weather, amongst other things too... One minute they were fine and the next... Just couldn't believe it! Wanted to cry so much but somehow I couldn't even shed just one tear. Seperated out all the other youngstock from bigger ones, in case they were being bullied and I counted them, all the ones I hand reared and she wasn't there... Ik she was dead but it was that moment when you look for a familiar face amongst the sea of faces and can't find it. I felt like a part of me died in side. Then the store lambs we were keeping back, this bad weather has been a pain, I carried a weak one 3 fields, backbreaking work. 3 hrs later he died. Then another store ram lamb which I had been nursing died yesterday. Thankfully the rest are all ok. Well fed too and we wormed the lot the other day in case it was that. Dead animal collection are due in a day or so. Just trying to work onwards and upwards really. Think the shock is going away, but with that heifer I reared from a baby, it's like losing a child. Ik I will get over it, in time, but when you've put so much effort into something and love that thing it takes so much to just let it go. I wanted to scream yesterday, just cry all the pain and hurt out, but I couldn't, just couldn't. I failed her when she needed me most and for that I can't forgive myself!:cry: sorry for rambling on guys, just needed to get this out...

Has anyone done a mindfulness meditation course?I'm thinking of doing one but not convinced I will stick at it.Requires a big commitment ie half an hour a day for 8wks,

My middle daughter whose 11 has had real problems sleeping for months now, getting worse and worse...she gets herself into a panic and of course, because she worries she wont be able to sleep...she doesn't sleep... sometimes still awake and panicking at 2am...and if she's awake then so are we.... :( it becomes a self fulfilling prophesy for her. we had tried everything, including GP. My wife mentioned mindfulness and I downloaded an app for her to try, think it's called 'Headspace' and she settled down the first night to listen to one of the 10 minute relaxation clips, she was asleep before it ended....so there must be something in it.

@waterbuffalofarmer You haven't failed anyone. Don't beat yourself up over something like that which has not your fault. As @spin cycle says, we've all been there in one way or another, often in several ways in fact. One day I had to hold a perfectly healthy looking calf and insist that the vet put it down as it's second bvd test had come back as more positive than the initial test. The calfs granny was a particular favourite whose blood line I wanted to keep, and the calf was a gorgeous little heifer. I felt that I was letting the granny cow down but in reality I had to do what I did to protect the rest of the herd. Likewise when I loaded the granny into the trailer to go to the factory before her time I felt like I was betraying her, but again there was nothing more I could do for her. Unfortunately sh!t happens and losing stock for no apparent reason is part of that. Its ok to cry. It's ok if you're too numb to cry. Having this happen to you on top of losing a family member is like being kicked when you're already down. Just give yourself time. Be kind to yourself. No one is judging you. The sun will still rise tomorrow, lets make sure it's with us not without us (y)

Waterbuffalo,

as I clicked like for you post I felt rather uncomfortable for doing so but it is good that you are sharing and it will help to ease some of the pressure. Sometimes events, like the harmonics of musical notes, set up vibrations in other areas that we are not always totally aware of.

Although it pales in significance; when we lost our family dog ( my soul mate ) I hurt more than for the loss of some people I have known. It hurt all the more because I had agreed to him being put down and I had totally failed him.

You have invested a great deal into your stock and have also bonded strongly with them so it is bound to hurt deeply when you lose them. I think that it was Jesus who said "blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted". A better translation of the word comforted would probably be "strengthened".

Thanks for that Chris. It's ok I know how painful it can be to lose a family pet, heartbreaking :( but I'm sure you did what was best for him at the time :)

The closer we are the deeper the grief is felt upon parting. A great many of us keep a safe distance between our selves and others and yes we grieve their passing but the pain is soon healed. Pets and true friends, however, get in under our radar and their loss cuts deeper than anything. Friends know of all our troubles but true friends have lived through them with us. They also accept us as we are. :)

Many thanks for your understanding. :)
