I have just buried a cousin last friday, everyone is gutted and even the vicar mentioned that as farmers we are 3x more likely to end it, so as rural comunities we need to stick togeather look out for each other and i think to some extent stop comparing ourselves to the bulshit bloggers who are 10 times better, more efficient and have the morals of a snake...

This thread has set me onto a few people to pm about life and problems, good to have someone to talk to that can listen and empathise but be an outside influence on what you are thinking, I'd also imagine a good few people will know others on here and wont want to go into detail in public which the pm takes away. At least one of the people I've been pming I think will be a good friend into the future. If anyone wants to pm me then feel free, I can read and chat, anything that helps really.

I wasn't being negative to your post at all, just relaying my experience, I do agree with you.

Having fallen into the Farming Forum by accident, and discovered this thread sometime later, I have read every comment and have learned a great deal about farming and farming folk. My heart and thougts are always with those of you who have lost sons, daughters, family and loved ones to depression/anxiety. Brick by brick, I have obseved you building a refuge for those in in need of a beacon in dark times.

Stay safe, stay well, and long may your light shine. :)

As a few of you know my girlfriend has been suffering with pretty bad depression for some time now, in October I persuaded her to give up work because every Sunday she was terrible, don't think the people she worked with where particularly nice. On the run up to Christmas she was slowly getting better and better, but I don't know if that's due to the anti depressants or the beta blockers. Over Christmas some days she'd come and see family members, other days she couldn't leave the house. Then 1st week of Jan she went for councilling, I told her it didn't matter what it cost get a councillor she likes. Yesterday was her 3rd session with the councillor and what a difference in her, it's incredible.

Last weekend we went over to Yorkshire to meet some on my friends she's never met, and she was totally fine no drama, She's gone to the gym tonight for the first time in ages and then tomorrow she's coming concreting.

To anyone suffering I would strongly advise cognitive behavioural therapy it's doing the world of good for Sian :)

This is a mirror image of my relationship with Rachel as I have posted before
She basically broke down last September. She couldn't face people or even leaving house without risking panic attacks. Got to the stage she was pushing me away ( we don't live together )
She finally saw a consultant 1st week in January who has started her on a new course of medication. She is slowly improving but still bit cool in her feelings towards me. I suppose some will say I should walk away for my sake but at the moment that's not something I'm prepared to do
I think the CBT counselling would probably help greatly to reduce the anxiety and improve her quality of life and ultimately mine

Must be something to do with the sort of women putting sheds up attracts Bob

Yep Sian can't see me some days. I own a house that we both live in but some nights I end up sleeping back at farm. But it's getting better

Definitely try and push her towards cbt, it isn't cheap but bloody hell it works

She has agreed that CBT would be most helpful as she has had it before
However 6 month waiting list on NHS and £60+/hour private
How much has Sian had to pay ?
I told her the cost didn't matter if it helped to improve her quality of life (and mine)
but she is quite independent and stubborn but i'll keep working on her

Fair play to you @RWG Contracts for getting Sian away from a negative environment (y). Hats off to you :)

Also to you @BobGreen for sticking with Rachel (y)

So glad to gear that Sians counselling is working so well. Hope Rachel finds the same relief soon.
Counselling is definitely to be recommended. It helps to resize those monsters back into the proper perspective and make them easier to deal with. Doesn't mean they don't need dealing with, though, but makes it easier because they aren't as magnified and terrifying as they were.

Keep up the good work, chaps :)
