Thanks @Pieces_of_Eight (y)

Extremely rough and ready, looks like a household recycling plant:sick: but certainly does the job.

that sort of post suggests depression is 'in the mind' rather than the illness it is....true about activity as it releases endorphins.....but to suggest ppl coped better 500 yrs ago is wrong....for instance 500 yrs ago no antibiotics...no anasthetics to name but two...ppl 'coped' though:rolleyes:

They more coped with it differently than coped better. Life was very different then, different challenges etc. we have to remember that. But very true though, they kept themselves physically busier.

This sounds harsh I'm aware, but ultimately the person in question has to sort themselves out, they'll find a way out of the hole, or they won't. But nothing a loving partner can do or say will 'make it all ok'. Having suffered from horrendous depression for years, I know for a fact that subjecting a partner to the problem just compounds the problem. I wouldn't inflict my depressive phases on anyone. I just work through it. A depressive is a depressive, regardless of wealth, position, celebrity.
Yerr i think she might have hit rock bottom

She managed to see the doctor this week and they've put her on anti depressants and she has to go to counselling of some sort, not sure how effective these are, but it's a start

There are a number of types of depression; one of which may respond well to distraction and work. Some anxiety/depression may respond well to a change in diet or abstinence from alcohol and caffeine and there are cases of depression where the chemical imbalance of the human body needs to be brought back into a state of balance.

The above states can be greatly helped by commencing to talk about what you feel is driving your state of mind and there are numerous agencies just waiting for our call and willing to listen to our deepest troubles.

What worked for Craven Heifer may not work for you or me but may work well for some others. None the less, Craven Heifer has been prepared to share and make a valuable input to our thread.

when starting a course of antidepressants or when medications are tweaked - to suit as time goes on - that person needs someone to keep an eye on them as it can be a time of turmoil as the medication begins to work or it can even make them more ill for a while until it works properly or not. ....this is very much a danger time.

having someone that cares for them does help......... of course it is not the total answer but having a partner/family who care and know how to keep an eye, notice subtle changes etc. and make sure at times they keep taking the meds ......even if they feel a bit better.

Following on from the Rio Ferdinand story on tv, I see that the Mail on Saturday has run a two page advisory spread for anxiety and gives some tips that may be of help to those with anxiety problems. The Saturday's article is to be followed up by an article on stress and food, this coming Monday.

Perhaps worth a read.

BBC1 now. Rio Ferdinand, "Being Mum and Dad".

Absolutely heart breaking couldn't watch all of it. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and while the treatment is over it's very hard for both of us to move forward. Between thinking about her and the implications of brexit and the future of farming my head is all over the place.

After something traumatic like this happens it's very difficult to move forward, except that the passage of time helps.

Try not to think about all of it at once. You can't do anything about brexit so try to park that one. Make time for each other. Spend time together. Make memories together. Doing stuff is more important than having stuff.
And go easy on yourselves.

Hi James,

read your comment within moments of being posted but was at a complete loss for words. The news about your wife's diagnosis and treatment certainly put the future of farming and brexit into perspective.

What is the ongoing prognosis and how are you both coping at the moment?

There will be many on hear just reaching out to you both in thought and prayer.

Chris
