Waste of time putting mcpa on anything.
Cleaning up cereals, that's all its for
Why is that the case? Ive Seen MCPA used effectively on thistle infested ground as part of the strategy, Knock them back, Correct the soil indexes and let the grass out compete the re-growth followed the next year by an early-ish silage cut to defoliate any burried in the much stronger re-growth of grass.

Like anything, its a tool in a tool box - you cant fix a Land Rover with just one sized socket!

It's just a tool.

Biggest problem with all grassland chemicals is that you need to understand how they work and how to use them effectively. Not all products control all weeds.

I've cleaned up fields of rushes with MCPA and 2,4D and I would never advise anyone to do something I had not successfully used before. I'm no longer involved in the sale or supply of chemicals myself so I am as independent as you can possibly get.

Used just that Lupo (mcpa and 2,4D) a while back on rushes which had been topped five or six weeks previously. Initially very disappointed with the result. But in the past few days the rushes seem to be suffering the effects. Gradually from the top downwards it seems. This combination seems to work but results not quickly apparent.

Nothing happens very fast on rushes.

Lupo IIRC is just like Polo, even at full rates its shandy weak. Use straights.
