Death Of Democracy

I like the idea put forward some time ago, by I think @Danllan ,of 20% of the seats being up for grabs every year.
This would make the direction of the ongoing business of the day more relevant to the process.
Also. There would be a smaller and more concentrated group of probably more qualified and relevent candidates chasing seats.
The principal is seen, to a degree, in US Congregational mid-term elections. I think that if an evenly scattered set of seats were up for election, it would serve two purposes: give Parliament a fair idea of what the country was thinking on an annual basis and keep MPs on their toes. The major downsides to it would be that there would be more elections and it could lead to governmental instability. I'm keen on PR too, with the caveat that referenda results are binding on Parliament rather than merely advisory. On balance, I think that increased governmental instability is too high a price to pay for the possible benefits.

'EU intransigence'? You're having a laugh. It was totally clear from the start what is and isn't possible. Hint: No non-member gets the same or better deal than a member. Not too difficult to understand, unless you're a typical Brit exceptionalist with an obsession with WW2, Triumphs and BMC, strawberries and cream - along with crap B&B, rubbish catering, useless public transport. I could go on.
But the uk is running at a surplus in the treasury and these wonderfull eu countries are on the brink of a recession

I have said many times on here i think that Brexit must be enabled and my preference is for a hard brexit, it needs to be tested for good or bad.

In respect to democracy i have no representation as i live in one of the safest Tory seats in the UK so as a socialist my vote has counted for nothing for 25 year's. I lost as you put it in the referendum which was the only time in my life i had a vote.

But a word of caution, we all have to take responsibility for our actions, so to expect me as a remainer to deal with the consequences of your actions as a leaver ui not a reasonable expectation. I will look after my own (family friends business) but you as a leaver must lead the way and create the "new" economy i will fulfill demand (jobs services etc) but its you and all the folks that voted brexit that have to have the courage of your own convictions and lead by example- not sit on your arses and whine "well if the remainers had got behind this it would have worked"

I will say it again i want a hard brexit not to rub anyones nose in it if it goes wrong but to prove the concept.

This is the leave votes moment in the sun - step up and crack on.

But that has nothing whatsoever to do with what I wrote. The balls up the government is making is regularly blamed on EU intransigence or EU playing hardball (doesn't cricket use a hardball?) Whatever comes out of this mess is OUR doing. I'm sure if it were to be 'sunny uplands' none of you Brexiters would be thanking the EU. It's our mess

Its time for the Brexiteers to take ownership of their aspirations and set about delivering them...

I would be delighted to see a Brexit supporter, or supporters, running the show. But we have TM and Mr Robbins, who undermined pro-Brexit ministers every time they the initiative and actually n-e-g-o-t-i-a-t-e-d, rather than did just what the EC / EU wanted. :(

Less talk more walk as they say.

But Remainers are the majority in Parliamentas they must be in Councils, organisations and the establishment in general.

I doubt most of them have any idea how to run a business .. they're too busy worrying about people that don't live in the UK and giving money they never earnt to people who have never earned any.

The cr@p is about to hit the fan .. HMG needs to reform massively no more pet projects like HS2 or over costly offshore wind turbines.

I dont give a s**t what their capabilities are, where i come from if you run your "gob off" you had better be prepared to back it up.

You cant tell me that 52% of this country that voted brexit don't hold in some part significant jobs, businesses etc?

Truth is Wanton they need to get a wriggle on.

What a joke.

Remoaners have created a complete mess of the EU negotiations, ended up with no trade deal and you want Leavers to pick up the political conseqeunces ?

:LOL::LOL::LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Just remembered there's a general election coming probably before we even Leave the EU or get a trade deal ?

Remoaners are going to get crucified .. your politicians continue to make a complete fool of themselves .. they'll get their just deserts.

I fail to see how remainers will prosper, most will be deselected before the next election and i include tm in that

I was talking about the general population not the MPs, although i reckon 90% will get re-elected as you "blue" folks will have to vote for whatever "gatepost" is put up.

Already doing well, the panic created in business by the gov is driving more and more work for me.

A hard brexit would be "kerrching" in my line of business..
