Death Of Democracy

So how do we square away Brexiteer MPs who represent remain voting constituencies? I dont have a problem with that as i see that as a MP standing up for their views and doing what they think is best for their constituencies?

I will take a conviction politician over any other type any day, i would have Thatcher (and god knows i will never forgive her) over Theresa May. This is why i cant come to terms with many MPs including JRM/JC etc as they are "representing" their true views JC wants a heavily nationalised UK with Jam for all and we all know that wont work. JRM is a fundamentalist Catholic with extreme views on abortion, gay marrige, homosexuality and other "things" but stands as a tolerant one nation Tory?

Far too much smoke and mirrors and deception. I saw an ex Labour MP on QT last night (someone i have had little time for) let his political mask slip and tell it like it is over Shami Chakrabarti - not enough of this goes on.

I think Chris Leslley telling the truth about Shami Chakrabarti was refreshing. How the labour man reacted was perhaps the most vicious thing, I've ever seen on Question time.

Chris Lesley got quite a battering, not easy for him.

I understand that, but the Tory party are hardly stupid enough to deselect MPs pushing them into leaving the party?

The Conservative grass roots membership are actively removing MPs.

CCHQ has no say in what the membership does .. CCHQ does not represent the membership.

That's interesting. Do you think then there will be a widespread purge? And will the membership adopt new candidates of their choice or those proposed by Central Office. If the former will these be more staunch conservative candidates (shorthand for more right wing?) Just an interested bystander as never joined a political party. Just cast my vote. My local Tory MP is in process of being deselected.

It depends on the membership, the stand point of the MP and how the constituency voted.

Letwin, Boles, Grieve are a few names that come to mind.

BTW I've let my membership lapse .. I like my MP but I'll be damned if I pay any money towards Theresa May and her 200 MPs.

So you reckon the "Night of the long Knives" is happening, with the removal of all centre right and moderate Tories. I suppose if Labour is incapable of challenging them, better they destroy themselves. (y)

Below is the relevant graphic from your link... and, guess what, it starts its small print, with an official figure. It then goes on to extrapolate and, unapologetically, use its own estimates to quadruple the figure, and then backtracks... :ROFLMAO: It doesn't give a categorical number anywhere, just 'between', 'could', 'if', 'estimate'...

It even contradicts itself by headlining 3.6m and then, in the smaller print, saying that it estimates there could be 'two to three times' the official figure i.e. a max of 2.4m...! :banghead: Of course they are correct, 2,4m is between 1.8m and 3.6m, but it is also between 2.3m and 2.5m, and between 1 and 10m! And, anyway, it's all estimates and guesses, not fact. They are a bit thick, just the sort of people I am glad to see on the case - you're not one of them are you...

The number of Europeans resident in the UK is know and is fact. Use the method that your chosen idiots employ and it 'could' be >10m. (y)

Of course it's an estimate, that's what free movement is all about. Not having big brother watching and interfering in your life. In six months time I don't doubt they will be able to tell you exactly how many ruddy Brits there are, and where everyone of them lives and what they are costing their respective country if they remain. :banghead:

No,it’s getting rid of people who lied to get elected and are more liberal than conservatives

Coming out now that Soubry was thought to have joined the SDP.

I'm sure I've also read that Wollaston was in the SDP from the local membership ..

David Cameron's parachuted in favourites.

Yes, that will be 'most efficient', get used to it, Berlin makes the rules and Brussels 'enforces' them. As for estimates, no problem with them as long as they are openly and unambiguously made and stated; it's the rest of their hysterical attempt that nauseates. Anyway, as I wrote, very glad to have intellects of that standard in your corner... (y)

They are shafting the country
I understand why you want to do it, I don't agree but do understand.
What I can't understand is why 3 years from the next election, every MP who is deselected has nothing more to lose and you or the party has no more control over them, so no more fear of the whip, party or constituents.
The Tories are already a minority government.

No,i dont get The Times on Sat/Sun as there is too much cut down forest in it.What did he say?

Ah, I thought you were a Times reader.

But yes the weekend copies are quite a tome with much 'unnecessary' plastic wrapping and adverts that are targeted to the wealthy Baby Boomers!! Very laudable to just take it during the week.

Not sure if a link to online will work unless you have a subscription as protected by pay firewall so I have copied and pasted into a Word document which is attached. Think it is all there - had to delete the various advert pictures that came over. But quick scan through versus the written page seems to have it all. Thought it an interesting commentary. Hey ho.
