Bought what we presumed was 100% British (Somerset) Gammon steaks today from a local shop..... but it would seem not once we spotted a label underneath the top one, which although blurry says “midland meat company made using EU&British pork”

Got some explaining to do haven't they.
Local shop, supermarket or farmers market, all equally capable of making a mistake but all capable of dodgy stuff too.

Spoke to local shop and they’ve said they have removed all stock off the shelves and will be speaking to their supplier tomorrow to see what has gone on
Good response from the shop 👍🏻
I bought a meat box online from a butcher who sources everything locally, the cardboard used to pack the inside of the courier delivered box was from EU labelled pork, hmmm why would a 100% locally sourced butcher have such material ?? Might be a perfectly honest explanation guv’nor but, whatever, I won’t be back

It brings all the recent attention on to Red tractor into focus for me, not only are we tying up ourselves in an ever increasing burden of red tape and cost at our disadvantage to our competitors who import to us, seemingly the UK wholesale chain is still bent and all we farmers care about is whether our sprayers are tested one year or three !! and that we are world leaders in “standards” we may be, but our immediate customers don’t give a sh*t

Ask him where he gets everything from. Does he keep pigs or are they beef sausages, what about chickens?
I'm sure he's fine, I just find this, local is always best thing to be a bit silly.

Small farm up the road from here used to have an "Eggs for sale" sign up. Loads of folk used to come from the towns to purchase these eggs, loved to see the half dozen or so hens running around the yard.
Eggs came from a local battery farm, no claims were ever made but the customers just assumed. Nothing wrong with the eggs but they weren't what the customer thought they were and the sellers were very much aware of this.
