Decisions decisions....

It's all my fault  haha seriously though....there is a balance between "the grass is always greener" and "you only live once so you gotta give things a go" Everyone else's lives always look better, more exciting, more peaceful etc to our own but everyone has their problems.

I think it sounds like you need a wee break and a bit breathing space....get some clarity before making any big decisions. It's usually times like this that something comes along and makes the decision for you almost. As I always say, have a little faith.
(n)(n) I don't need breathing space and a break.
I did all that in the autumn.
I've posted this now as I do have a bit of breathing space(y)

I don't blame you by the way:mad:

I would look at it quite simply , you dont have huge amount of flexibility in your current set up , the farms are not your own and as such you are limited by what you can or its worth putting into it. You can improve the circumstances a little but not radically change them as you yourself say.

Do you want to or can you see yourself carrying on as you are till you are 70 ? as in all likelihood that is what you will keep doing if you don't make break now

so on that basis if are a "worker" and prepared to work hard and be reliable you will go a long way working for someone else , both in terms of money you could earn and jobs you could do , to boot you will get more time off and not have to worry about work when you are off .
You could do that in almost any part of the world , some places are better than others in terms of tax free wages etc I know a load of lads who work offshore , but now most work in russia , far east , etc earning really good money and most of them after a few years seem more supervisors than physically doing any work themselves
working in canada and or oz would be a great opportunity, but you may be to old to emigrate to OZ now they are quite strict unless you have qualifications they want.

None of us can say what is right for you, but you are not tied in any way at the moment the world is a big place and employers everywhere want good reliable flexible employees personally in your position I would go for it .

If Canada is for you, have you ever been down Port Elgin south west ish of Toronto . I spent a bit of time there when I did a bit of curling back in the day . Gorgeous part of the world , fairly rural area, and the locals were very friendly towards wee Scottish kilt wearers ! Or pimp up a van and go
and be Parker’s mechanic/ fabricator in Gold Rush !

No idea what you should do, but a few points:

There is no such thing as failure, if you succeed then great, if not it is experience!

Risk is easy when you are single, most of the time even huge risks pay off if you have the balls to try.

Money, who cares, you cannot take it with you when you are dead, die with an overdraft and you are on a winner!

I have taken some risks buying houses and the farm, the figures looked bad, but I knew I could make it work. Not easy, not very nice at times, but I have done what others would/could not do and am happy that I did.

Only you can decide where you want to go and what you want to do, but if you do it then give it your all, you will not regret it.

PS how much/long would it take to get all your welding tickets, can you just take an exam?

Ive read most of the posts.... sadly i witness far too often just what happens to people with regrets in later life.... What doesnt kill you makes you stronger... Life really is short.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst!
Never never over think...

If you want to set up a farming business you need to show that you've got that. You've to show your books to prove you got most of it through farming too. Pretty sure that's right.
Go to australia for 6 months, get some heat, and plenty work for welders. Stuff snow and ice for 6 months.
Look on trade me for farm /foreman/manager jobs

I went to Australia years ago. I've friends in Kalgoorlie that have a drilling business, got offered work with them before.
I think I'd struggle more with a Canadian summer than a Canadian winter. No desire to go to Australia and the near constant heat. (though I liked the outback people, rough and tough)

How about NZ or Europe? Lovely farms over there, beautiful quiet neighbourhoods. Friendly people, depending where you go. Awesome bakeries and such... ;) Land is very fertile and the farmhouses/farms are just too nice. Cheap too :D

Nah, New Zealand is grand (sister lives in Wellington) but a bit too far away.
Mother lives in Sardinia, there's a few nice spots out there, the area around Lode is beautiful... but a little too dry...
I'm not an overly fussy chap, but I'm not looking just to leave here, just go somewhere else, anywhere... Not a case of running away.. just always had the notion to go back to Manitoba.
