Deere or Fendt

Hi all,

New member here so please be easy on me!

Whilst looking at the rain here, I've been thinking about renewing our tractor.

Currently running a Deere 6630 premium (with Autoquad and MX loader). It's been good to us albeit the head gasket was done at about 5k hours. Currently at 7.5 hours.

It's our only tractor so reliability is important. Main duties are fertiliser spreading with 2500kg spreader, ploughing (4 furrow reversible), spraying with trailed sprayer and feeding some cattle. Hauling some grain and straw too.

We have traditionally been Deere people but Fendt has caught my eye.

Current thoughts are: 6145R AP, 6155R AP, Fendt 514, 516, 714, 716. We will be putting a new loader on the new tractor.

Haven't had any prices yet.

Any thoughts on the choices? I am keeping it to these two brands for the moment.

I see the Fendt have Deutz engines, not so sure they are as good as they once were......?

Just priced both, like for like, Fendt is slightly cheaper better warranty, Fendt apparently have improved engines, JD price rise 3rd sept.
If you’re buying second hand go John Deere, second hand Fendt’s are over priced.

I’m surprised. What models/spec did you price?

I mooched around a couple of dealerships and thought the build quality of the Fendt and it’s Fendt loader looked very good. Didn’t see a 500 series though and have never even driven a Fendt!

There's only one tractor to buy a sisu engine in and that's a valtra . MF don't buy the complete engine from sisu . And the bits MF put on themselves aren't great.

Ok, let’s just stop up here a minute if we don’t mind.

I mentioned at the start that I’m keeping my choice to Deere or Fendt. Not MF or Valtra.

Just comments on the models that I mentioned please.

No offence intended, just want to stay on topic.

no experience of newer JD's but I ran plenty in the past

724 Fendts have without doubt been one of the best and cheapest tractors we have ever run

Biggest seller in Germany too I believe?

Probably a bit big for what I require.

We just sold one that was 5 years old - cost 110k ful spec new and sold for 80k circa 1000hrs a year. Had no more than servicing and a couple of minor repairs through that time. Operators love them, light weight for the power and compact size, very versatile tractors that we use for every operation from spraying (6000L 36m) drilling (12m direct) corn cart (18-20t trailers) spreading (trailed k45) . Good all rounder

new one best part of 140k now though but that doesn't matter IMO - its ownership cost that i'm interested in

Only way you could get me into a different brand right now would be with guaranteed buy back price and 5 year warranty

That’s something I liked about the 514/516 - good power/weight ratio and not too big for loader work.
