Defender auto?

Has anyone had an auto box fitted to a Defender?
I've got a 90 with the 2.4 Puma diesel. It's ideal for my needs but my left knee is not so keen on using the clutch pedal! The other vehicles I have access to are autos so, I was wondering about having the Defender converted. Maybe I should change the engine to a V8 petrol while I'm at it but I've seen some horrendous prices out there! I know there are a few 50th anniversary models with auto box and V8.
Any constructive recommendations gratefully received.

Go V8 and LPG at the same time and the cost is hugely reduced in terms of thirst as LPG is half the price of normal juice.

Must be possible as half the LR stable must be auto these days?

Ignore rover engines.

Consider fitting an inline booster, usually found on the brake line of older cars, worked from the vacuum pump.
The only concern I'd have would be the catch point and feel of the clutch, but this article seems to have worked well click.

I prefer autos really, nicer to tow with too. I’ve been reading some posts on a Land Rover forum. Some saying the 4 speed Ashcroft is a bit clunky and hesitant. JE engineering do a 6 speed box with a power upgrade but it’s about double the price!

Find a 50th anniversary defender, which were Auto V8's. Basically Range Rover classic running gear. These hold there money and usually you can Jessel for more in a few years time.

Seen a firm on Facebook book have done v8’s and also recently restored I’m guessing a 300 90 and fitted the same auto box that was in my s1 disco, but can’t for the life remember their name!

Looks great but would cost more than the Defender is worth! Where have you been looking?

its not cheap ! as I say lots of man maths needed to justify it over the next 100 yr of saving by adding LPG to it

waiting for parts - we are hopeful ! oil / filter didn't fix it but its higher gears work now, new angle sensor ti try next, if that doesn't work then its for the heap ! shame as its not done 1000hrs !
