Looking to change my pick up and want to go away from the traditional pick up type.
Needs to be a 5 seater with a decent boot space for dog cage for 2. Looking to tow at times 12ft stock trailer, the new Defenders has grown on me but the mrs likes the Discovery, I imagine both would do the job i want but are there any models to avoid etc, don,t know much about them so looking to hear from owners of either, thanks

They’re both mechanically pretty much the same vehicle. Discovery more practical and comfortable and a year ago was cheaper with better discounts. Defender is a defender though and the residuals are stronger. Pays your money takes your choice. Haters gonna hate but there’s not much to beat them in the way they drive.

Bought a d5 commercial a couple of months back and I concede I’ve must have a lemon, done nearly 5k miles and NOT broken down.
Would I keep one out of warranty? I’m not that brave.Yet.
Had both, currently Defender. Not had single issue with any LR product since end of Td5 in original Disco. Had German ones and one Volvo. All nice but nothing compares in every day use, comfort and just the feel of it somehow. Wouldn't keep any of them out of warranty. Son has GLE, let him down several times in just 2 years. Electrical stuff.

I have to say we went to a dealership yesterday, had a look around and even got a quote, they were keen but i like to take my time and reading the after sales reviews last night does not fill me with confidence!! when i hear comments like don,t keep one out of warranty and being ripped off 2 to 3 grand for service costs and few small parts etc, alarm bells start to ring!! On the quote its self were 4 lots of add on,s, wheel care, scratch care etc etc all adding well over 1k, sales gimmick maybe just an excuse to squeeze a bit more out of an already dear product.
There are a lot of defenders getting about around here so they can,t be all that bad, just don,t want to use LR for after service unless in warranty.
Forgot to say i like to keep vehicles for a while so keeping in warranty would become expensive.

Got a Disco 5 and a Defender 90, same D300 engine, if i had to keep one it would be the Disco. Comfier, handles better, more space. Returns 4-5mpg more on the same run.

If using it for towing get a 3l engine. Had a 17 plate Disco since Feb and have loved it, changed from a Navara. Great space inside. Nice to drive. Tows well. I did get them to throw in an extra 2 years warranty on it for my peace of mind, 3 years in total, but at the moment it has been fine, and have done almost 10000 miles in it so far. I do like the new Defenders though, but could not quite stretch to 1!
