DEFRA consultation on on approach to beaver reintroduction and management in England

I have long been pushing for the reintroduction of velociraptors if we are reintroducing random gone animals
That just shows how different parts of the country can vary as they are fairly common around here, I think a few escaped from a wildlife park and have been breeding fairly successfully over the last few years.

What exactly is the purpose of reintroducing these animals anyway?
Will we be reintroducing bears, sabre toothed tigers, T.Rex, brontosaurs etc too? Those long necked buggers would make some mess of your maize fields! You'd be glad to have brock back. :D

A cynical person might think it is just to help justify the poor state of all our waterways

Previously they had to think of a reason why they haven't dredged the rivers in a decade but now its a protected habitat don't you know :banghead:

Interesting.
I've just come from our local "catchment partnership" meeting (Wildlife Trust, Lea Valley Park, County Council etc present).

Under aob I raised the DEFRA Beaver consultation. There was a distinct pause before anyone said anything. They can see issues in managing them too.

If you want evidence of future issues managing them here is latest report from Nature Scot on their numbers and the effect they are having in Tayside.

And this is from the pro beaver people so probably under reporting the negatives.

Not just farmers they are effecting . Network Rail and Scottish Water regularly having to remove dams threatening their infrastructure.

That’s good, they should help to reduce the excess population and cause of climate change quite quickly. I am sure they will also help to keep the beavers in check once they consider them a fitting starter alongside some garlic breads.

I was talking to one of them fairly recently and he said he was sick to the back teeth (which I didn't think he had anyway) of people banging on about climate change, he said climate change is feck all, it is meteorites you need to concentrate on.

No S H I T......

The bloody WT grpoups all seem very pro-Beaver IME. I will wait until they start moving around the Severn and tributaries... then really have a bitch fest at the local activists.

Daughter should have a 243 by then...

And the official reply to all these concerns is basically "tough t1tties, that's just what Beavers do, so you have to accept it, oh and no there is no compensation for all this damage, because there wild animals. Even though we allowed them to be reintroduced"

Great eh!

Want releasing where the impact on Urban man can be seen.... Along the lower reaches of the Thames just before it reaches London maybe...
That'll happen in time with the proposals. Then it'll be up to the EA Flood Risk staff to try to get NE licences to manage the carnage.

I used to be the man in that particular hot seat..

This was my patch:
