Defra fears lack of trust will undermine ELMs uptake

When I voted for Brexit I voted “down with this sort of thing.”
I didn’t expect this kind of bureaucracy to increase tenfold. I’m still waiting for the bonfire of red tape we were promised but it never happens. DEFRA in particular just keep adding to it with ever more complex schemes for less and less return.
I thought that after Brexit, the civil service would shrink to about 10% of what it was. Seems I was wrong and we’ve been lied to …… yet again.

If you think a grade 4 senior Defra official will converse with you directly after THAT sentence in your opening paragraph that you are mad and deluded.
If you want to try for a sensible conversation then delete that sentence and converse with people like an adult and a professional.

No. It’s blunt. It’s to the point. It’s fact. They need to understand enough is enough.

This country is just so forked over by time wasting, cost incurring needless dross in all shapes and sizes that I fear we’ll never again approach anything like commercial efficiency that we need to compete in global markets.

And it’s all of that added cost that can only keep driving up inflation!

The more rules and bureaucracy we add each year it just drives costs higher and higher.

DEFRA should have kept it simple, wider margins on water courses, implement a max cap, and used the money saved to fund more intensive options.

If they even think to employ red tractor to do anything they will lose even more farmer support.
DEFRA's best friend was the family farm, for most of their goals, yet they endanger their very existence.

Yes. Pesticide user form next. Why the sudden need? Another hour or two gone.
Just filled in my June Return. Yet all the info was submitted on my BPS form, except for numbers working here and my ethnicity. And is that really necessary information?
Costs could be slashed if the will was there but it isn't. The way it appears to me is that DEFRA are scared to death of the collapse of environmental schemes as they'll have nothing left to do. It amazes me that we need such a huge civil service department to administer just one privately owned and run sector of the economy that we are always told is insignificant nowadays when compared to the sacred financial services sector. Look at their massive HQ down in London and all the thousands they employ. It's a joke.
I think it was Alan Clark who said that the entire British Empire required less civil servants to run it pre computers than are now employed in just one government department. The civil service has become a self serving organisation and in reality no politician has the balls to face it down. That's why we are bombarded by one new joke scheme after another. They say the public want these things. The public couldn't give a toss about "public goods" as long as there is food in the shops.

The damage DEFRA has done for themselves by coming out with an over-complicated, half arse heap of nonsense to start with has done them no favours whatsoever.

The Land Agents thought they’d be rubbing their hands with glee at all the money they were going to make out of us.

They both need to learn to stop treating us like idiots.

Not language I would use but the point made is very pertinent.
The average farmer today is a different beast to that of a few decades ago and I think Defra are only just realising that removing BPS will be like taking its lead off.

Of course we were lied to, we’ve been lied to for years, EU rules have been gold plated by our own, it’s what they’ve allways done then hid behind the giant rock of “its EU rules”.
A vote for Brexit has removed the rock they hid behind but they haven’t realised that yet.

I do believe the ruling class are slowly but surely destroying this country, no doubt some will blame Brexit for that but it was happening anyway just before they had a bogey man called the EU to blame,
