DEFRA survey .. attitudes towards future agricultural and land use strategies

When it arrived today, I assumed it was the usual census, until I opened it! As a farmer, with a deep love for the land and stock that we have cared for over many years, with the world teetering on the brink of war, with other countries ie Germany, going to suspend some of the environmental schemes in order to grow more food, I read the questions from a farmer perspective with a growing sense of disbelief and I must admit, anger. Just wondered what everyone else thought of it? I for one will have to revert to another thread on here 'stressed farmer wanting new swear word' as I'm not sure which of the many good suggestions on that thread would properly fit.

Not seen this one.... email or posted?
Posted. You're in for a treat if you get one!! 20 questions with multiple answers that basically ask you what it would take for you to change your farmland to other uses. There's more than one question that I really can't answer if I want to continue dairy farming. and one where it asks you to rate your confidence in the government 's ability to balance land use change that is beneficial to both the environment and rural businesses and communities. Back to the stressed farmer swear words!!! Maybe I'm just extra tired tonight and touchy. I'll be interested to read the views of others in due course.

Not seen it, but it does show how Defra are living in the past. What will it have cost to send it out, presumably with a postage paid return envelope, and then collate the results ? Whatever they learn from it, they would have got for next to nothing, and I suspect in a much more representative way, by having a staff member reading relevant threads on here.

Well, I will await the survey. However from the sounds of it, the questions are loaded to produce the outcome desired....

Aren’t most surveys?

I received a farm practices survey a couple of months ago, decided not to bother as I believe I said at the time on here, it felt like being interviewed under caution by the police, anything you say will be taken down and used against you.☹️
