Dehydration - or I hope it is.

I used to think all this hydration stuff was rubbish.
I was welding and grinding all day yesterday in overalls and sweating like a porker. I had 3 pints of juice in the afternoon but still woke up with hangover type symptoms this morning.

I've had this a few times after a long day, sometimes throwing up in the mornings (no beer at all).

Just me pushing 50 and not looking after myself or am I pregnant? That would explain the waistline. :(

I have had worse hangovers drinking orange juice and lemonade in the pub when driving then when I have beer. I think their is so much sugar and acid in the fruit juice that it knocks my system out of kilter, liver perhaps.

If working in the heat and losing a lot of fluid then water with a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar is better I reckon.

We don't realise how dehydrated we get. It's always a problem in the workshop as welding and grinding in shorts and a vest isn't a good idea but I also swelter in overalls.

Assuming you're not welding galv (metal fever) then I would say you need a better drink whilst you're working. One mans juice is anothers syrup! Keep it simple: berocca in the morning (basic vits probably aimed at hangover recovery), banana for the potassium you've lost and just water.

How can you be expected to walk so far to get to the kettle ?
Mrs N's chain is only 4m long, but we cope. :D

According to various professional sportsmen I've heard on the radio. When you're working hard by the time your brain tells you you're thirsty, your performance, judgment and decision making is already impaired. so from a safety point of view when working with power tools drink more water, more often.

Is that Berocca any good when one might of slightly over indulged? Resolve used to be brilliant for it but they stopped making them!

It's full of vit C and all the B's that make your pee go green so, yes, it's about as good as you're going to get! No paracetamol in it though:yuck:

Easy way to tell - pinch a fair bit of flesh on the back of your hand and then let go. It should ping back straight away. If it takes a second or two, get some fluids into you. Coke (the liquid variety) is good as the sugar in it makes it absorb quickly, but for overall balance, a large glass of ice cold milk takes some beating!

ps - if you are over 80, it may take a second or two to ping back, but no longer...
