Got a high lean-to building off the side of a grain shed which pigeons love to perch, nest, and roost in. Had alot shot over the winter but it just keeps filling up again, looking at ways to stop them, filling in the building is not an option, anyone tried one of these?

See them and the kite version around the big car parks for the exported cars in Southampton, they keep replacing them as they get damaged, so they must rate them!

Might give one ago, I just wonder if it was a dark still night if the pigeons would even notice it

I trapped pigeons for years on the flat roofs of a grain processing plant. The traps were "inherited" from Rentokill who has abandoned them because they didn't work, which was not surprising as some bright spark had assembled them incorrectly!

These were basically cages made out of 50mm weld mesh, approximately 300mm high by 1200mm x 900mm floor area from memory. There were funnel entrances on all sides and a number of traps could be set out in a domino pattern so adjacent traps would guide the birds towards the entrances of the next door trap.

The mesh size is important so the birds can get their heads through and peck some of the corn. They move around the sides looking for an easy entrance, so find the funnels. I'd catch up to 40 a day -- though sometimes none if a cat or hawk had frightened the birds off.

Can't find any similar illustrated on Google and I suspect these days they probably have to have food, water, and shelter....and probably licenced.:(

I have wondered how effective hanging netting under the beams would be. Like the safety nets for working on roofs, but probably needs a finer mesh. It should prevent pigeons roost in the roof, but not stop them perching on anything else in the shed.

There is a problem when selling racing pigeons (and some other domestic types) because they naturally 'home' to their old loft! If the man who sold them was a decent type (!) he'd go into the loft with an old fertiliser bag ay dusk and chase them out! Doing that a few times just after dark usually persuaded them not to come back! My uncle bred and sold white fancy pigeons -- often several times! But then he had no scruples!

Thought about the traps but i just can't see it catching any amount in my situation, they are never in the yard, they are always in the roofs. Maybe a speaker calling out bird of prey calls would be the best thing....

Buy an air rifle, I must have shot hundreds this year alone
I should do really
Just plinked away at ours in shed. £120 all in with scope.
Got all 6 this week. Just need to get the rabbit in mum's garden.
Could you put a link up please, i have no idea what i'm looking for, something that won't go through a fibre cement roof but kill a pigeon dead i presume..

I have and do. But if I can trap a load while I am out doing something else.....

Until all pigeons are extinct, I will eliminate them.

place the trap indoors where the pigeons can see it and bait the landing board and interior....once you start catching try and pick a distinctive one and always let that one go....hopefully he'll return regularly with some mates;)

edit....hang the trap up...don't put it on the ground....and...you'll never be pigeon free...lincs is one of the best geographical counties to race pigeons:D:D:D
