Deutsch connectors

Has anyone much experience with the Deutsch connector kits? Seen a few kits on Amazon and eBay but they’re serious money, see similar looking kits on aliexpress for a fraction of the price but not sure of the quality!

I got one through our NH dealer to connect a Trimble (NH) GPS to my sprayer control box, so that it only records the area when the booms are switched on. (You also need a relay to do this.)

A word of warning:
You will need a really good magnifying glass to see the number of each port. Which probably isn't the number position that it shown in the Deutsch instruction Book!

Took me a day of buggering about, until I found the right ports to attach the right wires to. Only after I used the magnifying glass did I get it right.

Very good connectors. I brought a kit from @Graham Smith @ Retrofitparts and recommend it.

Just looked there, his seem more reasonably priced. A lot of the machines now seem to use them for the light fittings but some aftermarket lights don’t have them, would rather have kept using the Deutsch ones to keep them the same rather than doing what I have been doing and just doing away with the plug and soldering them directly.
Is there much to look out for when using them as in is it as simple as like are the 2, 4 , 6 etc pin connectors all standard sizes and fitment?

Hello, I stock and sell genuine Deutsch connectors DTM, DT and DTP, I can make kits to suit your requirements. If you have any questions let me know.

The two and three pole connectors have improved the tooling (they're now owned by TE) so the numbering idents are much easier to read now. They are going through the range but it is quite extensive.
One of the latest products is the 12 or 24V detector range for the DT06-2S series, these have an LED and are fitted into a clear housing so you can tell if the unit has power to it. http://www.retrofitparts.co.uk/deutsch_electrical_connectors/led-wedgelock-for-dt-detector-12v.html

Thanks

Yes I think I have had some off @Graham Smith before.

You get a couple different types of pins, some are hollow were you put the wire and some have tabs you crimp over. I prefer the tab type but the others work aswell.

Its OTT but I normally tin the wire first or crimp the wire then solder it then finish by crimping the outer insulation.
They are the best connectors though and never give any bother. Also easy to pull pins out and move around or to add heat shrink to a single wire if it's been rubbed etc.

For most worklights they use a DT04-2P moulded housing in the headlights or a receptacle on a flylead - the correct mating part starts with the DT06-2S with a W2S-P012 wedge and 0462-201-16141 contact or one of these http://www.retrofitparts.co.uk/deutsch_electrical_connectors/deutsch-dt06-2s-connector.html

In the Deutsch range there are three types:
DTM rated to 7 amps and use the size 20 contacts - common in autosports industy and some GPS screens in ag, available in 2,3,4, 6, 8 and 12 way
DT rated to 16 amps and use the size 16 contacts - common in the ag/construction industry. available in 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 way (8 and 12 way are keyed)
DTP rated to 25 amps and use the size 12 contacts - these are only available in 2 and 4 pole connectors

The receptacle housings use the male pin and the plugs use the socket contact. You always need the correct wedges to ensure the contacts are locked into place.

There are many other housing configurations with heat shrink boots, flange adaptors etc /seal sizes so if anyone has a specific requirement please let me know - happy to help. G

@Graham Smith @ Retrofitparts is the simplest option for deutsch connectors, unless youd like to order every bit of the connector separately because thats the way the likes of farnell or mouser sell them, the housing, the pins, the blanks, and so on, knowing the correct sizes then because your just going off a part number.
Ive used retrofitparts and there is little difference in price when you have all added up and a smooth transaction from ordering to delivery, Highly recommended.

i bought the correct swaging pliers for these terminals years ago, they arent cheap but are a superior crimp, you might want to factor that into your decision.

I am not quite sure i understnd this reply. Yes the numbers on the rear of the plugs are small but i dont know of deutsch instruction book??
The smaller DTM plugs you need good light to see the numbers.
They are great plugs and pins that are very water proof and you can easily swap the pin position. (done this hundreds of times).
They are expensive but like most things, you get what you pay for.
I even have a couple in use on my house hold appliances!

Ha-ha!
Instruction book might be overstating what was in effect a piece of paper leaflet which came with the plug, with a drawing of what the number of each port is. It was wrong and I only solved the correct way to wire the plug when we found a decent enough magnifying glass to be able to read the actual numbers on the plug itself.

If you get stuck again visit this website https://laddinc.com/ Enter the part number in the search box and you can open the drawings or 3D PDFs etc to help you out.

For those on a tighter budget, Amphenol-Sine make connectors (AT ATM ATP) that fit Deutsch. They are still not cheap, but nothing like as eye watering when buying a lot of complete plugs and sockets.

I’ve had several of Amazon which come from China.waited a few weeks for them but used the plugs on led lights which then plugged directly into plugs on my jcb telehandler and Volvo excavator.they have been fine and pretty cheap too.I could not find anything in uk at the time, about 5 years ago
